EA is stating that forcing players to use the Origin software at all times in order to play ME3 is to enhance your social experience whilst playing the game. Except there's a problem with this. Isn't ME3 a single-player game? And why would there need to be social aspects to a game designed to be played without other people? Isn't the point of a single-player game that you don't want to play with other people? That you wish to play the game by yourself, hence the term "single-player"?

Yeah, I know logic doesn't apply to EA...

its not just ME3.

BF3 Also uses orgin.

the thing is, steam needs a competitor. and that is where origin comes in

gamersgate is a competitor

There's also Desura, probably the best client I've ever used for at least 5 minutes.

It mostly has indie games though, some might be f2p too, but so far, any games that I wanna buy off of Desura, I can't cuz I'm poor and lazy.

How buggy is Origin compared to Gaben's work? That's what I'd like to know.
From what I've seen, it's not necessarily buggy, as much as it is absolutely retarded. EA's old network transitioned into Origin, however not all of the games from the old network did. Since EA's old network (which I can't remember the name of) has been shut down, people who bought those old games have now forever lost access to them.

Also, their customer service is horrendous. They'll flat-out lie to you and disconnect the chat when you call them out on their bullshit. They're the worst.

Customer Service is retarded, when I had bought Mass Effect 2 it was second hand so the code didn't work anymore, I went to their customer service and I said I the code just wasn't working, they give one right away. I'm pretty sure you can get about anything for free from them.

Ubisoft does the same thing........I bought Splinter Cell conviction. for the sole reason of playing the campaign and catching up on the story line.
Well along comes ubisoft and says "Sure you can play it only single player but you still have to use our games launcher and our servers still have to be online for you to use the OFFLINE FUCKING WEAPONS THAT YOU EARNED WHILE PLAYING OFFLINE." Oh and did I mention that the item/games server was down every other time I tried to play the stupid thing?

So far I haven't used Origin a great deal, but it reminds me quite a bit of when I first started using Steam. It's pretty clunky now, but it has the potential to be good. The disappointing thing is that EA with all their resources haven't given us a better, more polished, program than Valve did when it first rolled out Steam.

Damn. Now I want to play Scc but I get this strange kharmic feeling that after spending an hour or so re-downloading it, the servers will be down............THANKS A LOT STUPID THREAD!

I don't think its more to compete with steam, more than likely this is an ineffective way to prevent pirating.
