Declined Wordfilter the "n" word

Okay, I'm pretty sure this is the second or third suggestion thread, but still. There's absolutely no good reason not to have this in place. Even adding a warning in-chat which shows to the user typing it would cut bans significantly. Something like "Use of racial slurs result in bans" or something like that, since these guys getting reported usually have no idea that it's a bannable offence. Regarding people saying "you can just replace an i with 1 or e with 3" how about filtering that TOO? I'm gonna back Ruelel's suggestion of "silly willy" but open to suggestions.

How many different ways to bypass this? And I think CiNiC? Suggested this before but was declined. -1
 
I guess that technically, we should have the rules in the MOTD or some crap like that so people know that we have a zero tolerance policy for racism

People are inventive, a bunch of trolls could probably crank out a 2 page list of variations we wouldn't even think of.
 
+1 Because it may be in the rules but if you don't look at the rule section you won't know if it applies to the server

No, I don't think anyone would go out of their way to do that, even if this is the internet. They would be reported if the word was noticable enough. Do you not see what point I am trying to make? This would cut back bans SIGNIFICANTLY.

See this? Tell me how many racism reports there are. Now, tell me how many racism bans there are. Exactly.
 
I'm willing to think of creative ways to bypass it, just so we can filter them.

This, this is the hole in your argument. Skial is supposed to have a zero tolerance thing on racism right? But clearly someone's too lazy to ban all these people. So why don't you just cut your friggin' losses and filter it out?
 
Most people are lying and know it's against the rules. For one, it adds extra processing on the server. Also, people are going to find ways to bypass so why spend the processing time? I don't think there are many servers that explicitly say you can spam nigger over and over again so it's not like people don't know. It won't cut down on the bans because then they'll just spam over mic making it harder to catch them.

This argument has been made 34892374890234 times before, searching through HLStats chatlogs and mass banning people is really sketchy and will fuck over Skial's rep at the very least.
 
Look guys, no community is perfect. Whether we keep it this way, just using reports to ban people, or go an entirely new way and auto-ban anyone who just says it once, some people will be happy and other will not.
Now, we just have to find which outcome makes the more people happy/least people unhappy.
Personally, I think the way we have been doing it until now is fine, I mean if people get offended by someone who says the "N-word", they report it and the person gets banned.
If no one gets offended/gives a flipping fuck, the person who said the word gets away with this, this time.
No one is going to go on more than 3 servers and spam that word without getting reported.

Anyone shouting nigger over mic would get votemenu'd, no doubt about that. And why are people opposing this? A simple filter to the word itself and the number varients isn't going to slow the system down. And why spend time and effort into the servers? Do you not CARE about the servers? Honestly. That's what makes a server GOOD.
