    Steam:

You might need to set the output to the analog output instead of the speakers manually dude.

When I choose speakers as default the sound comes from headphones AND the speakers.

Try this to check for compatibility.
    or
    1. From the Start screen press the "Windows Key" + X. If you have a mouse, right click the bottom left side of the screen.
    2. Select "Device Manager" from the menu that appears.
    3. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
    4. Right Click the device listed here.
    5. Click "Uninstall".
    6. Restart the computer and check if the audio jack is working.

Is it possible to downgrade from windows 8.1 to 7? I got the serial code under my laptop.

it is possible. I dont recommend it. It is much simpler to get a cheaper slightly less good headset instead of having a long stressful tech process. additionally it is only legal with the Windows 8 Pro version

I am deciding to get a wireless usb headset. Is going for wireless a terrible idea?

What you can do is you can press F1 after restarting your computer. From there, you can reset certain programs. I had to do that with my laptop several times since my mouse pad wasn't working. It might work, it might not.
