I have a super old Gateway laptop that I'm not using at all.
What should I do with it? Like turn it into a server, etc.

I also have a CR-48 Chromebook, and it has miserable specs, don't know what to do with that either.

Make a request to the hammer gods.

Or you could recycle the parts.

Make a fapstation?

The positive with that is even if the world is doomed and the internet is plugged out, you can still access some (by then pretty vintage) porn. Gotta plan for the future.

What are its specs? You could either try out Linux on it or do what you stated in the op.

I was thinking about running DSL or Puppy Linux on it.

Deploy firewall for home purposes. The specs provided by you should be more than enough for Untangle - pretty neat and easily configurable Linux-based firewall. Or pfSence.

I simply disassembled and made a shrine to my deceased, loved one. 1 GIG RAM on left, 2 GIG stick on right, HDD under it all, topped off with the sound card. When I build my new computer, I will carry on the legacy of my friend by installing his RAM and transferring his files. TOSHY LIVES ON!!

So yeah, you could try that.
