I don't think it's a good idea. When you connect to Skial servers, you accept the rules that are active on the server. Everyone has easily access to the rules if they want to. So if you break the rules, you shouldn't be surprised you get banned. Admins won't ban permanently if you are playing the game nicely like everyone else.

If this will go through, it will cause only more problems when people come complaining for an unban. This is somewhat the same as the Miranda Rights in the USA, which causes problems if someone gets arrested and is not read his Miranda rights.

I mostly warn people if they are spamming things too mutch, but i'm not gonne warn for racism or anything in that kind.

or the rule breakers could read
THE RULES
i know it's really unheard of
The rules are in place to provide an enjoyable gaming environment for as many players as possible on Skial servers, not to give ban happy admins an excuse to ban people from them. If you can convince someone to adhere to the rules instead of banning them results more players on the servers, which is the main priority of the person who made you an admin.

If this will go through, it will cause only more problems when people come complaining for an unban.
How would it cause more problems? If anything, there'll be less problems because they were warned.

It could cause problems for admin who join and ban someone who is clearly breaking the rules, before telling him 'his rights'. It could cause problems when they come appealing here for 'procedure errors' so they would get an unban, because the admins wouldn't have followed that rule. A bit weird, don't you think?

BTW, isn't there a plug in that is told in the chat box?
"type !rules to see the rules."

I don't think we shouldn't give people warnings because they didn't "type !rules to read the rules", those messages fly by in chat pretty quickly if there's people chatting away on a server, someone could easily miss it.

Also while your playing the game the rules page is listed on the left side in the chat box /rules and you can see them there. So people that do break them don't need a warning due to there lack of knowledge and inability to read I mean the people that are in the servers will give some one a warning before some one reports so I still think there is no need.

+1 unless there is a clearer representation of the rules accessible in game where people would see them

I used to admin a year or two ago for a CSS jailbreak server, one of the most horrific game modes for an admin that you could imagine. I always warned people first (unless they were doing something very serious like hacking) before taking action. A warning just feels more fair than instant action being taken against them. Most of the time a warning is enough, but if they keep continuing on breaking the rules and / or ignore the warning, then I'd take action. Overall in my opinion it feels more fair and at least gives offenders a chance to stop.

I'm going to say +0, I personally don't see this needing to be a enforced thing for admins, but in my opinion if you instantly ban someone when the situation allows you to warn before banning then you're not as good of a admin as you could be.

You guys just don't get it. 1-3 day bans ARE a warning. If you get banned for a day for doing something that you didn't know was against the rules, you sure as hell know now. After that people who are stupid enough to keep doing it get longer bans until finally permanent. They have plenty of chances for good behavior on Skial servers. If you don't believe me just check out a few random bans I found on other communities in like 5 minutes...

Railbait
1 week for map exploit. - Ruelel might ban people stupidly for setting him on fire through gate but at least he only does it for a day.
1 year for talking shit about admin. - damn I wish I could do that.
1 week for innapropriate language. - We only ban for racist language unless it's really over the top god only knows what stupid thing this poor sap was banned for.

I'm pretty sure Railbait also bans for killing people in the water on their trade server... talk about stupid.

TF2Newbs
Permanent for being a general douchebag.
Permanent for being a general douchebag.
Permanent for inappropriate language.

Anyway that was just a few random bans I found quickly I'm sure if you bother to dig around and check out other communities you will find even more/better examples.

And then there are servers like Lotus who's ban list isn't even public so who the fuck knows what people are getting banned for there...

People should be so lucky that they are getting not only multiple chances to NOT break rules but that we give such short bans in the first place. On top of this we can't keep track of who has received a "warning." For all I know someone is Griefing and has been warned by other admins multiple times on other servers or even warned by me and I either don't remember or they changed their name... basically this person is NEVER banned and just laughs at Skial for being the stupid community who never does anything and only "warns." We can keep track of who was banned for a day for doing the same thing before and know who the repeat offenders are.

Lolz, when I read this forum post....I know I'm just one insignificant ant on the grand scheme of things as Mitten likes to point out about the server's players, but the OP has a excellent point. Iron fist rules doesn't work, sure ban people. Silence them with godly admin powers....and alienate your customer base. Because after all isn't Skial a business? Sure it doesn't make millions but I'm guessing those paid advertisement money goes somewhere, and if more people play on the servers because it's known as a friendly place...then isn't it beneficial to everyone?

A simple warning...takes what...5 seconds to write? Less time to hold "v" and say what you want to get across. I know I did read a post where the person was worried about the admin running into some flack for trying to give a warning...but in temporary ban or temporary silence will do the same EXACT thing. What will happen when his friends or just other players on the servers notice when one of their members without warning get a temporary ban...

It's more of a non-profit business, all the money Bottiger gets is used to renew the servers/expand them/get new ones

You are approaching this as if it is a legal matter. Skial is a privately owned server for a free2play game, laws don't really apply to bans here. Admins can and should be banning people that make their community look bad, you shouldn't have to be worrying about comparisons to Miranda rights for a game.

That might get a little messy in some instances. How do you keep track of these warnings? What if Mittens warns a guy, then this guy switches servers and Rue warns him for the same offense and it becomes a situation where people can repeat offend and get away with it due to different admins warning the same people. Most people that are breaking the rules are well aware of it, but just don't care until they get busted. Being an admin is similar to law enforcement in that you can use your own judgement on some things, but sometimes it can come back to bite you in the ass as well. It's nice to give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes, but most people breaking the rules know they are doing it and the other small percentage are just kind of simple. If someone could come up with an efficient warning system...perhaps.

1 day bans are no big deal, it's just like putting a kid in the time out chair in the corner for a bit.
