We are seeing many DDoS attacks tonight, against a wide variety of customers, making use of a newly-formed, huge botnet. These attacks are large enough to cause upstream saturation. Our systems are rapidly null-routing every targeted IP address, but the short delay before each null-route takes effect means that there is a period of increased packet loss for all customers at the location for 30-60 seconds.
As always, we are analyzing the attacks and working to mitigate them for our customers using a variety of methods other than null-routes. This is only a temporary spike upward in DDoS effectiveness because of a specific new, extra-large botnet..
