Fake. I've made a little research and found out that Steam's passwd database was encrypted with AES. So far this algorithm hasn't been claimed to be cracked so I don't think there is enough of calculation power for even group of hackers to decrypt it. I can bring in some numbers if anyone's interested.

I see he's still being annoying as hell.
Are you talking about charrie wonq "hacker" or Del Piero?
Btw, doesn't this "charrie wonq" reminds you another hacker who was letting us know about Skial forums being unse.... Oh wait... it's him...
Lol, kid is pathetic.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it take beyond the age of the Earth to decipher AES? Especially with the 256 bit algorithm?

This kid is just an attention whore, I remember we even had all the data on his personal life

It was like that. But recently one kid has shown how to use brute force attack combining GPU and CPU processing power. Kid managed to guess (using brute force attack - not even having rainbow tables involved) WPA2 password in 15 seconds using small LAN with 15 PCs. I really forgot how it's called, but he combined GPU and CPU processing power.

EDIT: HERE is an interesting doc I saved when I was researching on this topic.

So I won't be surprised to hear tomorrow that AES is no longer the most reliable encryption mechanism.

EDIT_EDIT: Fucking kill me and spit in my face, I forgot how this combination of CPU and GPU is called. Take all my certs away and disable my medical insurance policy.

Either that password was too simple or too short, because brute force attacks are VERY slow compared to other decryption methods.
Unless the 15 computers he was using each had the Tegra or Quadro graphics cards along with dual six core processors, it seems unlikely.

Just read the doc.
Quote:
"The paper will also talk about GPU computation power growth faster than Moore’s law. In a decade we may see 2 to the power of 12 times computation power difference between GPU and CPU."

As a side note, regular, non-IT residential users either do no protect their WLANs with password or leave all settings default. I know since I performed so-called "wardriving" on my own when I dropped my wife for a haircut and had been waiting for her in a car. Out of 17 WLANs my laptop caught 10 were unsecure, 5 had WEP and only 2 had WAP2.

Well, I couldn't read the doc considering my internet is constantly fluctuating between .2 kB/s and 5 kB/s and cutting off all attempted downloads.
I do admit though, computational power will eventualy exceed our own brains power.
By the way, I just did a check on the surrounding houses with my laptop
5 unsecured
3 WEP
Only 1 WPA2 with AES and TKIP....and it's mine.
Edit: I already cracked the ones with WEP.
Edit 2: Turns out they were all from my friends house, and he knew I was the one cracking them.

They were and he knew? :-P
How did he know? Is he a "Hacker"? Does he run pf al the time?

a) Let me guess... Wisconsin? ..... if not...
b) are you cheap?

I really must ask if hackers really need to "guess" your password anymore? It seems if they want in your shit bad enough, they'll get in.

Of course, I also wonder if people still use dipshit passwords like their dog's name or their phone #, or something stupid like QWERTY or 12345...

That reminds me, I need to change the combination on my luggage.

That email looks fake. Gabe said passwords are hashed. Hashed passwords use a 1 way hash function like SHA, not a reversible function like AES.

Can't you go to jail just for threatening to do this? I don't see why he would have the balls to try this on Valve. It's a lose/lose situation for him.
