self depreciating humor doesn't come across very clearly in text form.

Alternately, self depreciating humor often signals to me that you're okay with being teased about that thing.

When someone is attempting to be friendly they use the terms you have put on the table. If you react this strongly to being 'old' or if it's something that you are this sensitive about it might be wise to not frame yourself as only having worth/deserving ridicule due to age.

I've just scrolled this shit storm thread through looking for Bottiger's response, but since I haven't found any - I didn't even bother to read.

So you're saying that you can make XYZ joke, but nobody else can?

Guess what? Doesn't work that way. If you have such a problem with anybody joking around about your age, then don't bring it up.

There are things in my life that I wouldn't want a bunch of people on the internet laughing about, so you know what I do? I don't talk about it every other post.

I don't make posts saying "Man, all these supermodels keep trying to date me; I can't get any work done with these women grabbing at my junk 24/7" and then turn around and get all pissy when Dave makes a post saying "Hey, at least I don't have a baker's dozen of naked women trying to bed me, pimp".

But you - you bring up your old age constantly. You're always making jokes about it. As such, the fact that you're 47 years old is about the only thing we actually know about you, so we use it in lighthearted jokes. But THEN it's all serious business to you.

Frankly, I'm starting to get pissed off on both sides. This thread was originally on how Skial used to be one huge "happy" family. Now it's turned into a personal crusade against Taco not liking ponies. Taco, on behalf of all bronies, I would like to apologize for any and all actions against you. Now that we've all apologized, please lock this thread before anything else goes out of hand.

I mean, Xel, can't you see that you're angering people, internet or not? You can go on and on about how it's "just trolling" or whatever, but you are making people unhappy and potentially pushing people off Skial. No one cares if you like ponies. No one. Fap to them as long and as hard as you want. But people do start to care when ponies seeps into other parts of the internet. You don't need to apologize, you don't need to try and feel "humble" or whatever, people just want you to tone down the pony stuff. I don't think that's unreasonable at all.

I guess you hadn't noticed, but the ponies that I, and everybody else, have been posting as of late are a direct response to a small handful of Skial users, Taco included, who expressed irrational outrage over the concept of people watching a children's cartoon. If Taco, or anybody else, didn't want to see pony pictures, then they shouldn't continue posting threads about it. If you posted a thread saying "I hate penises, and I'm sick of seeing them on the internet", I'd wager a bet you'd get a few pictures of penises in that thread.

And yes, I can see that people are angry over it. And no, I don't care that they're angry, because that's not my problem. If somebody wants to get angry over something as silly as a children's cartoon, that's their prerogative. Somebody that upset over pictures of ponies on the internet without lashing out by calling people "retarded", "faggot", and other expletives, obviously can't be reasoned with, as they're not a reasonable person. I can't make Taco be a reasonable person, regardless of how I post on the internet. He's responsible for his own actions. If he seriously can't contain his own rage, then he should ignore me (and other users) and move on with his life.
