I remember the only website I went to back in the day (which hasn't changed it's design once since 2003, btw) was a Swedish site for game cheats. Most older people just hanged out on the forums instead of going to the actual site, where all cheats were submited by kids under 12 years and you had these really over-the-top cheats. In fact, I just checked and there are still several of those there. Here's some examples from Pokemon Gold/Silver:
If you want a Mew at level 100, this is how:
1. You've got a Master Ball .
2. Go to Blackthorn City .
3. Talk to 5 people in at city 5 times every . (Yeah, it really says that)
4. Go southern to Route 45 and 46 .
5. Using a Max Repel back and look around for one hour without filling .
6. A level 100 Mew will appear after one hour and you can only catch it with a Master Ball.
CATCH A PIDGEY AT LEVEL 2 IN NEW BARK TOWN
LEVEL IT TO PIDGEOTTO ON EXACTLY LEVEL 98 (STOP THE EVOLUTION BY PRESSING B) OR ELSE IT WON'T WORK; TEACH PIDGEOTTO FLY AND FLY TO AZELA TOWN. NOW GO 10 TO THE RIGHT 4 DOWN 1 LEFT AND FLY TO NEW BARK TOWN NOW ALL OF YOUR POKEMON IN BOX 3 ON LEVEL 100 PS. DOESN'T WORK ON POKEMON GOLD DS.
To recieve your starter Pokemon at level 100 you can only choose either Chichorita or Wanin. When you've walked to Prof. Oak then the telephone and Utsighi says " you mast came back to the lab, something terrable has happned" Then you should not care about that and go to the town with the bird gym. There you will have to talk with an old man then you go to Utsighi where they've catched that thief and you recieve "Hyper Candy" which you then give to one of the two. (doesn't work on Hinorashi)
To recieve Ho-oh as your first Pokemon you will get Cut and you must have 20 Pokeballs or more... Then you cut down a bush then you save your game and turn it off. Then you turn it on and you shall meet a Ditto within 3 minutes..Then you save and then you turn off and then on again. Then you start a new game look what you got!!!
You will have a pidgey at level 9 and then you go to a pokecenter. There you will put in your best Pokemon and put it in box 3. Then you shall talk with professor Elm. You shall then go to Ash mother and talk with her. Then you shall be in front of her house. There you'll go 2 steps down, 10 steps to the left and 8 steps down. Talk with Professor Elm. When you've done that you shall go into Ash mother's house. In there there's the evolution of Snorlax!!!!!! (it's called Goldlax).
And my personal favorite:
start with mew lugia or ho-oh as starter pokemon!
First you fly with lugia to wirlisland and then fly to new bark town and then to wirlsisland then to blacktorn city and go into dragons den and then go out from the cave then you shall call your mom then you shall go to her and then take 2 coins from her and then take your lugia and fly to ecruteak city(your lugia has to be level 100 and have these weapons: fly swift hydropump and tackel)and talk with a girl in front of the pokesenter and then you shall talk with her 11 times and then to burned tower and meet 10 magmar in a row and then go to pokesenter and fill up your pokemon 9 times then go and talk with her 5 times then catch milktank then you have to give a rarecandy to milktank three times then fly iwith lugia to new bark city and talk with prof. elm and then you go to your mother and save next to her then you turn off the game and then open it again and talk with your mother and turn off and open again then take new game then you'll get to choose between Mew Lugia and Ho-oh at level 5!!
