Server-Clearing Cynic
So when someone else is using the computer while im on my laptop. Usually with videos and random web pages. Tf2 lags like crazy. I start teleporting, I cant attack, The other team goes invisible and people change colors ex. Their teammates start turning the color of my team. So I need comments on this and suggestions how to fix it. For all I know it's tf2 right now and not anything else.
Edit:When someone is on the phone i also lag hard. The phone shit I use is vonage or some shit

Stop playing TF2 on a laptop. Laptops are like deluxe toasters in regards to gaming.
But seriously, this:
someone else is using the computer while im on my laptop
is the problem. Your internet isn't made to do these two things at the same time.

That's not true. Some routers, such as mine, uses QoS (Quality of Service). This is a traffic shaping parameter that prioritizes things such as games over other things such as websites. Thanks to this, I am able to game without lag, even when people are streaming videos. I also have the WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings, which further adjusts data priorities, but the client computer must support WMM . Like I said, it truly depends on your router.

This is the Router that I use
Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band

While it is true that you can use multiple computers on the same network and have it run smoothly, if someone is running a program like Bittorent, it will generally lag, even if you have a really good router.

If you set things up correctly, even bittorrent protocol will not lag you. You can prioritize certain ports. So all you do is lower the priority of the torrent port, and it should work just fine. Just don't expect good download/upload speeds when gaming. :D

I have no idea how to do that.

yea I still need help

First goto http://192.168.0.1 by typing it into your web browser window.
Your router config page will display
Click Manual Setup
Choose Advanced Setup
The QoS Settings you will need on Page 50 are found on the left side in this window.

You should start by simply enabling QoS Upstream and QoS Downstream, and see if that works with the default settings. If not, you will need to proceed into Manual Setup.

The directions should help you set the rest up.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot em. For my sake tho, take a screenshot of whatever menu you are looking at when asking (Snipping Tool) .

The ports used by Tf2 would be:

UDP 27015 - Main connection port. This is the port and protocol used by the server browser, allows clients to connect.

TCP 27015 - This port is used for RCON such as with SourceBans (if needed).

UDP 27020 - SourceTV (if enabled). You can disable this port by adding "-nohltv" to the start up command.

Just add those rules in and set the priority on it to the highest, and your tf2 should be good to go.
