Why should you be unbanned?
It is with a heavy heart that I must first state that I'm not attempting to appeal my permamute/gag, as that would require both an ounce of regret for my actions and a desire to change.
I have been playing Team Fortress 2 for 11 years, and in that time I have seen communities come and go, but the one constant I always spotted on the server browser was Skial. These servers are practically spammed onto the master server browser like herpes on an especially promiscuous woman's battered hole, and my experience with these servers was always negative. From players running rampant abusing exploits in the dubious server plugins to actual, genuine abuse, I feel secure in the knowledge that I, as well as the dying remnants of the TF2 community, will happily outlive the cancerous growth that is Skial. The only good thing I think I could actually say about Skial is that at least it hasn't been the subject of a minor grooming scandal among its' administration (yet), unlike wonderland.
So to answer the question "Why should we unban you?", I simply wish to say I could care less if I'm unbanned, and in the event this leads to an actual ban across all your awful servers, then I can simply add them to my blacklist and move on with my life while your unqualified, cotton-ball-soft admins seethe over words on a screen.
And this brings me to a bigger point I wished to make. Regardless of whatever low-test rules the administration puts into place, nothing I've ever said in the servers' text chat has simply amounted to words on a screen, a small portion of pixels among a sea of other innocuous pixels on a screen. Any person who would see pixels on a screen as offensive and get mad at them is clearly too weak a person to be able to handle the average online experience. Team Fortress is not a "safe space", and until Valve steps in and cracks down on the free and open speech in their game (which they never will, given how long it takes them to fix actual issues) then as adults it is your responsibility to not let terms deemed "racist" or any form of -ist or -phobic have the power that getting noticeably offended grants them.
Skial would not be the first community to silence me over simple language, and you sure as shit won't be the last. If anything, this has been but a minor footnote in a long and storied career among the greater TF2 community. I understand the right to free speech neither applies to the internet nor to such small matters, but I can walk away from this experience with my head held high, secure in the knowledge that all it took was a 6-letter word to make some Finnish non-contributor seethe enough to waste his time permagagging someone who will likely never come back to the server he exercises his petty authority over, as well as the knowledge that I made it off this ship before it had the chance to sink.
And what could you, the barely-qualified failure-to-launch staff member assigned to read this ban appeal learn from a moral standpoint? Two lessons come to mind:
-Words on a screen are incapable of hurting you, or anyone else for that matter
-By being offended by a simple word, you are solely at fault for giving such a word the power to offend, like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So, I feel it's appropriate to leave this "appeal" with a little bit of parting wisdom that a certain "Finnish non-contributor" might recognize from my chat logs before I send out the appeal, close this tab and never look back:
