So recently I have noticed on Skial US 2Fort, that my game has become unplayable (for me). When attempting to play on US, I experience ghosting, stuttering, and sliding players. I first asked the server if anyone was experiencing these issues (nobody responded). So, I made a local server to see if it was on my side. The game was flawless.

Next, I looked to see if I was getting enough fps to meet my refresh rate. I typed "cl_showfps 2" into the console and tried to play on US2Fort. My lowest fps rarely dipped below my refresh rate. I then connected to a FirePowered server. There, my game was perfect. No stuttering, ghosting or any annoying nonsense.

I don't want to play on FP servers though. I suspect skial is restricting certain network settings, but I don't know which ones. I'm going to compare FP server tweaks with skial ones and make a list of them here.... If thats the issue.


Anyone have any ideas whats up? I'm certain this only started recently. Thank you.

EDIT: It seems to only be on Skial US 2Fort. What the hell?

I thought it was just me. I've experienced some stuttering and freezing (freezes just for a split second) as well but on Turbine US and LA. I noticed that the issue appeared right before the servers had to reboot for a new patch the other day.

Freezing? That's kind of extreme.
 
I was on turbine earlier just to check again and it seems like it got fixed by itself. I wasn't on long enough to tell but so far so good. I'll try again later.
 
Well, my internet got worse recently so I am not sure if it is me or the game. I have noticed that it has a bit more laggy, but that could be client side. I am constantly shooting up to 800 ping though.
 
The last update broke the map change command. There was a sourcemod update which requires a full reboot.

This bug was most noticeable on rotation servers so I created a plugin to only reboot those instead of disconnecting all players at the same time.

Servers reload the map every 24 hours to prevent the uptime lag bug but if the map change command is broken then they won't reload. But they will reboot when the server empties out. I usually find it is better to just leave the servers running instead of rebooting them.

If there are a few servers that are especially laggy then you can request to have them rebooted and the server shouldn't die since it is prime time. But if it is too late then it is probably better to leave it running.
 
Hello, im getting lags/teleports every day on your EU Fast Servers. It started happening since the last TF2 update and its only on the Fast servers (2FORT EU FAST 24 and TURBINE EU FAST 24). My ping is normal and i dont have loss or choke. Can you restart them please. Thanks in advance! (Sry for my bad english)
 
I second that. I'm having that issue on Turbine EU Fast +. Hopefully Valve will be fixing that anytime soon.

I don't know about the rest, but I do believe there was a minor DDoS attack yesterday. There was a message in chat saying something along the lines of "Console: Filtering out...Message will continue till attacks stop."

I cannot remember the exact message but I do believe it was like that. At the time I saw the message, everyone on the server had 100+ ping as well.

I saw this message around 1:00 pm pst yesterday, and I got off because of ping. When I got on about an hour later, the message and ping were gone.

Yes, that's our anti-DDoS attack system.
 
For some reason the teleports are back for me (2fort eu), but not so often. I also think my ping is a little higher than usual like 5-10. Choke is 0
 
Hey @Bottiger, there is something a bit subtle that I have noticed during the years I've been playing on these servers. If you look at anything in game (A resupply cabinet, a corner, something with edges), and you strafe left to right; there is noticeable ghosting and stuttering. It has always been like this. It is unique to Skial servers. Any clue?

EDIT: After the server reboot, things were a lot smoother. Is there a reboot only at 4PM EST? There should be a night reboot... Don't know how quickly this happens though.

This is just uptime lag. This happens the longer the servers are up without reloading.

All our servers reload at the same time every day if it has been 22 hours since the last boot or reload. Since the invasion patch, 2fort servers don't empty out at night. And patches can cause servers to not reload for longer than usual. 2FORT US just reloaded 20 minutes ago and there is no uptime lag now.

It is a trade-off between uptime and having players. If we reload too often then the servers will empty out. What we have is already the optimal compromise, and we can't really make this better. It is up to Valve to do something about it.
