Whenever I try to add a directory to the list of Steam Library Folders, the steam client stalls/freezes. This only started happening after re-installing Windows 7 today. All I have installed right now is my mobo/vid drivers, chrome, steam and winamp. No AV/FW currently installed.

Settings > Downloads > [Steam Library Folders] > [Add Library Folder] = crash
Settings > In-Game > [Screenshot folder] = crash

Now, I can add the directory manually with steams developer console:
Code:
] install_folder_add G:\Games\SteamLibrary
Mounted path "G:\Games\SteamLibrary" : index 1

But I want to figure out why it crashes when I use the UI to add directories and when I open the screenshots folder. I've never had this issue before. Running as administrator made no difference, and I have no programs running that could interfere with steam like this.

Any ideas?

I finally figured it out. Apparently, there was a directory under C:\ full of empty files (~278k...), which were leftovers from shredding empty space(?). Apparently, the shredding process ended prematurely (maybe when my power went out?) and that was slowing steam down considerably. After permanently deleting all these empty files (which took forever..), everything seems to be working fine now.
