Will Texas Successfully Secede?

I saw the full list of states a while ago; the fact Oregon and New York were on it makes this thing even more bullshit.

Thats what happens when you have a 'redistribution of wealth' gameplan. Obama is quoted as saying ' this [the AHCA] will work because many people will not seek medical care, and those people will pay for the ones who do' He said this to the Supreme Court just after saying 'everyone is already in the market for healthcare'. So he already knows people who are not currently insured will be forced to buy insurance or pay a 'penalty' (well, he represented it as a penalty to the American public but pitched it as a tax under the Fair Trade Act to the SCOTUS) and those people get the honor of paying the insurance companies for people who do seek healthcare. Many of these people choose to live very unhealthy lifestyles, and need the care as a result.

Also, under the AHCA, the US Govt will have the right to ban things they deem unhealthy for you. This can range from soda to cigarettes to alcohol and everything in between. (most people do not know this - Anyone remember Demolition Man?) I fully expect the bans to start soon after the AHCA takes full effect in 2014. (BTW New York keeps trying to heavily tax and outright ban sodas of large volumes) Reason being: many people who did not previously qualify for Medicaid will now qualify for some sort of subsidy for their healthcare. I, for instance, do not get sh!t from the Govt. I have been to the doctor twice in 15 years, and paid cash both times. I cannot afford insurance and obviously do not need it at present time. However, when the AHCA takes effect, I will qualify for Medicaid at the cost of 50$ per month - for me and my whole family of 4. I gain because the rest of the family is insured, but I go without - and now, for 50$ a month, I will have it too. Or rather, as long as I make it to 2014 I will!

As you can see, I stand to gain from the AHCA. But I am still very opposed to it. Im opposed to how it was achieved by abusing the Fair Trade Act and Im opposed to its sweeping authority over our everyday lives. Theres a reason not only Republicans but Democrats alike did not support the AHCA.

I have serious problems with how Obama bypasses Congress for things he wishes to accomplish his way or no way - including the Libya War - which by our own Governments definition was indeed a war because it lasted long enough to be considered one. The revolution is even referred to as the Libyan Civil War - clearly stating that it was a war. Now, Im not going to pretend to be a US Attorney, but the War Powers Act was designed to limit the power of one man. Unless authorized by Congress, a military confilct cannot last longer than 60 days at the whim of a President. The deadline came and our President simply notified the SCOTUS that he did not need Congress' permission instead of seeking it as he should have done. (Clinton also did the same thing with the Bosnian War, contrary to many people who claim there were no wars during the Clinton years)

This pattern shows two of the major 'accomplishments' by President Obama have been done by circumventing the checks and balances system. As flawed as it may be, it is still better than one man doing whatever he wants with an entire nation.

I apologize for rambling on. These are just a couple of the many reasons people want to secede - or at least, make the statement in asking to do so. I think its kinda nuts, but I also do not agree with this new style of Governing a Nation.

Well Texas is one of a few states who are easily capable of supporting itself if it ever succeeded.
It produces it's own oil, food, wind energy, has it's own way of governing things, etc.
It's got a few military bases as well, it would just lack a military to fill them.

Well, I understand why they're pissed. I'm just it's the kind of thing that people are blowing out of proportion saying that this is going to be big or that these states have completely lost it. It's just misleading to say "Texas and co. are splitting" instead of "random citizens from these states make an online petition" and I hate it when people spin shit like that.

Though I personally do want to see what a balkzanized America would look like.

Texas isn't seceding. There are people going around signing petitions to secede. Difference.
