Hi. I was a premium member until a couple of days ago (because Skial servers are really good) so I don't know how long this has been happening, but now even with cl_disablehtmlmotd set to disable ads (and get me kicked for reserved slots, which is fair) I still get invasive, framerate-slaughtering adverts that require TF2 to be restarted.

Skial, can you please fix your servers' way of dealing with cl_disablehtmlmotd. I can't use your servers in the meantime. Good job otherwise, but this is very bad.

Already had multiple discussions about this. It's a problem with the ad network Skial uses and they're aware of the issue. Although I'm a donator and have HTML MOTD disabled and I get no ads.

I don't need Internet Explorer because I don't want the ads. I don't mind getting kicked for reserved slots. If I have cl_disablehtmlmotd set, why do I even get the advert in the first place? Does anyone have a client-side fix while Skial work on fixing their end?

You're the first person I've heard of having this particular issue in the recent past, so despite what pants said above, it seems to be on your end.

While you may not want the ads, I'm sure you want to not crash even more. Make sure IE and Flash are up to date. Let's fix what's broken first.

why IE lol?

So, instead of taking 5 minutes to download a couple things that may fix your situation you're just going to argue in this thread.

when your game lags type !forum
it clears the window that the ad loads in and replaces it with the front page of the forums

to our best understanding it's an issue with the plugin that loads the ad. The people that have made the plugin have posted somewhere saying that they're working on resolving the reported issues.

thank you for your concerns. Spread the word about !forum

Not sure if this was directed at me or not?

There are plenty of people with exactly the same problem, forcing a ctrl-alt-delete to kill hl2.exe. Here's some: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2906657

I'll try the !forum thing. If it doesn't work then Skial go from servers I was donating to, to blacklisted.
it should work, it's worked for atleast 7 people, including me. You just have to give a second for the forums to load, when they do hit continue.

also, not sure if it matters, but flash wigs out on my computer every other update, which basically means i need to type !forum every hour or so when the update is shady. (lol, turbine jokes. lololol) Granted, when the version is shady flash will crash in chrome and firefox as well.

Don't believe IE is the issue. With the recent update I think they switched from IE to WebKit, so updating IE isn't relevant, but updating flash is.
Thanks *cough* creepingdeath *cough* i mean takethepants for answering my question.
