Yes. We get micspammers.

Some people don't like it.

They start a votemute.

All because they don't know how to client mute.

Server message instructing on how to do this, maybe before someone starts a votemute it'll give a "are you sure" type of message with how to client mute included.

You don't know how many times i've had to repeat how to do so.

micspammers deserve to be muted.

Yeah, but some people play music, some people wish to listen, but some guy that doesnt know how to client mute starts a vote, and if it passes, leaves the people who wanted to listen out in the dark

unless its on saxton hale its allow there

Yes, I'm talking about the VSH server.

Moosifer and whale sometimes play music, and it makes me sad when some kid votemutes and it passes :I

all because they dont know how to client mute

just remove votemute in vsh solves all the problems :p

Or we add this, because then, some people spazz into microphones and THEY need to be votemuted/gagged, making it handy to have the votemute.

But newfags don't know how to client mute. I have it copy-pasted into my desktop and whenever i log in, i make sure it's copied. Just in case.

If the vote wins than a majority don't want to hear it, so I don't see the problem.

change !votemenu/mute/gag to make it a client-mute instead of a global one? it's really annoying when kids get high on authority and go around silencing people for 30 minutes. some people appreciate the music, others don't. it doesn't help either that it only takes 65% for the vote to pass; and when it passes: you can't say shit for 30 minutes.

people are familiar with the !votemenu on the server, even if the server occasionally popped up a sentence that explains how to use the client-mute, people would probably still use the !votemenu over the client-mute option.

!votemenu system isn't ideal, bans only happen unless the entire server agrees, and it only takes two or three rotten apples to deny the vote. the current votemute/gag passes every time, mostly on people that aren't even doing shit. there's also people starting votes to turn all-talk on and off, i have no idea why.

this shouldn't be what the majority wants (the majority doesn't even pay attention what they are voting yes to), it's what every individual wants. i mean, if the vote fails; they can still client-mute. if the vote passes, the people who want to hear the music get to eat shit.

Don't think a server can control client mute, at least I've never seen anything to indicate that it can.

Yes it is about what the majority wants, you can't please everyone. So who do you want to please, three people or thirteen?

If you want to listen to music and other people don't want to hear it, guess what, you can do it on your own. Itunes, wmp, pandora, or !radio are all perfectly functioning programs that play media.

I mic spam, but not excessively, where it becomes bullshit annoying, but I came across a kid with that. Here are some responses I get when I say to use client mute.

1. i'm too laaaaaaaaaaazy
my response: Get used to it (I was extremely pissed that day, I don't say that usually)

2. No
my response: I stop mic spamming

3. You're a faggot and got no life and wants to mic spam to make people feel bad about themselves and make them cry EVERYONE SAY YES
my response: ......What?

i would like to please all sixteen of those people, i figure it wouldn't be hard to work something out. 'pleasing people' shouldn't be black and white like that.

micspam has been something very prominent in the culture of games like TF2 and CS. having to jump through different hoops on your own end because 'the majority' decided for you not to enjoy music on the server being played by someone just sounds ugly.

if the majority wants to listen to music, the minority can always client-mute; and that's cool because some people don't want to put up with that. the other way around however isn't fair.

Nobody ACTUALLY wants to listen to music on the shitty sample rate that Source Engine games offer through mic communications. It sounds like shit, and it's a waste of bandwidth.

We have a !radio command for a reason. Use that if you want to listen to music. Or run Winamp in the background or something. But don't make people suffer with your poor taste in music with shitty sound quality.

Also, constantly laying down on the mic (or using HLDJ-like programs which keep the mic channel open constantly) cause various client-side audio bugs for many users, which results in echo sounds, sound clips looping infinitely, and other problematic bugs. These bugs have existed for many years, and Valve has yet to fix them. Mic spammers (or people playing music) only serve to increase the chances of experiencing game-breaking audio bugs like this.

Client mute isn't the right response to mic spammers. There are rules against mic spamming for these reasons. Just because some people can't follow the rules doesn't mean that anybody else should be burdened with the task of client muting them, themselves.

And I can guarantee you that nine out of ten times, the majority of the people in the server do not want to hear somebody play music or mic spam. Only a few vocal users may condone it, but the rest of the players almost always hate it.

I've never actually used !radio, what kind of stuff does it play? regular music or the remixes Toxik used to play before Valve broke HLDJ?
I miss those days…:(
