Rule clarifications

Hi Skial,

I'm trying to get some clarification on some somewhat vague server rules:

• Don't be annoying/toxic. If you are bothering people and making them leave, you will be muted.

I submitted a report earlier for toxic behavior/chat that was instantly marked invalid. Since then, multiple users in the same game have called out the user and acknowledged their behavior as both annoying and toxic. Since there seems some hidden criteria here, could I have an actual explanation as to what those are?

• Griefing Examples:
  
  • Blocking sniper views
  • Teleporter traps
  • Dying on purpose in Zombie Escape after autoinfection ends.

These are fairly self-explanatory, but is there a full list?

I do not agree with the word annoying in the rules because that's not what it's supposed to mean in my opinion. There is a line between trolling / shitposting and actual harassment and toxicity. I do not want to overmoderate trash talking too much

For example someone saying ez or noob after killing someone is just a bad troll in my opinion and we shouldn't meddle in that, users can mute the player themselves from the client

but is there a full list?

Not really, that would be too long and we'd have to be constantly updating it to keep up to date. Generally anything that hinders your team directly on purpose is griefing such as healing enemy players. You can always report even if you're unsure

I understand and appreciate this; it's very hard to draw a line when it comes to banter. I wouldn't want to be on a server that made a little shit-talk here and there bannable.

That being said, if there is a rule, then there does have to be a line. What should define that line is extent and/or intent. Sure, if someone is saying "ez noob" after every kill that's one thing, but if someone is actively baiting out targets to then focus and berate all game if they respond, that's way too far, and in the spirit of what the rule is trying to prevent. "Just mute him" doesn't work in this case because you could say the same thing about every other rule involving chat or mic - it's not about whether someone is listening to it, it's who's doing it.

Thank you for your examples - they are very extreme - but people acting out in less harsh ways can still be a drain on fun and morale and warrant an infraction.

We thought about this and came to the conclusion that it's nigh impossible to draw a clear line for a concept as broad as toxicity. It's based on admin discretion and if we were to list several examples of what players can and cannot say the rules would be way too long and people would find ways to skirt them

My view for this is that I don't want to silence all trash talking but if you're truly awful I mute for it

Also you're right, technically we wouldn't need any rules because players could just mute people themselves but that would also show that we specifically allow players to say anything which paints a terrible image and would lower the server quality significantly
