Long story short, I keep hearing what I (think) could be "the click of death" coming from my laptop that could indicate hard drive failure. I hear it once every several days but because it can easily be drowned out with other sound it could be happening more than I hear.

Other then that, I don't notice anything else out of the ordinary so I don't now if I'm just hearing things or what, but I'm pretty certain it's coming from my computer.

So I have a quick question (All my knowledge lies with desktops so bare with my stupidity here)

Because laptop hardware seems to be very "customized" and can be a massive pain in the ass to replace so to say, are laptop hard drives also customized to the point where only a certain specific hard drive will work, or is it like desktop hard drives where they follow a more global design making them easy to replace?

Nope, all 2.5in HDDs are standardized, meaning that the hard drives will work on any laptop.

It only depends on the interface. Nowadays it's SATA.
