Any others here avid Pikmin fans, I've thoroughly enjoyed the series so far, Pikmin was a amazing game, I damned the 30-day time limit sometimes because it put a kibosh on days when I wanted to just cultivate a certain type, but in the end I always make it through about 2-3 days ahead, and can easily beat Emperor Bulblax at the end of the game, thanks to a Prima strategy guide I've had forever, was debating getting a capture card this Christmas to record gameplay and upload it to YouTube, make a Let's Play out of it.

Pikmin 2 however surpassed my earlier expectations by far, not only was the 30-day time limit abolished, the addition of two new Pikmin types with extremely useful and invaluable skills was great. The fact that they pushed away from the spaceship collection to restore the S.S. Dolphin to normal as was the plot of Pikmin was good, just the fact that it was still centered around collection of items was a bit downplaying, but the plot was much thicker with the loss of Louie and The President joining your party as the second captain was great. Have to remind myself to pick up a copy of Pikmin 2 for the Wii, I know it'll be compatible with the Wii U.
I have really high hopes for Pikmin 3 since it's been in the making for almost a decade now and from the trailers and gameplay videos I've seen, the graphics look amazing for how long it's been in production, the world looks much more realistic, there's much more interaction with your surroundings, and of course the introduction of the Rock Pikmin, which most were surprised at, but satisfied at the least, and I know there will be at least one more new type of pikmin to join the past five pikmin types.
TL;DR, but as I've stated before, I explain in detail.

Loved both games to death, the creativity of the world always got me as well as the funny moments that could happen while playing. Hands down the best moment for me was encountering Emperor Bulblax for the first time without knowing what I was getting in to. Been waiting years for Pikmin 3 and really am looking forward to the day I can buy a Wii U and a copy of Pikmin 3.

I personally have never even touched a Pikmin game, but they do look very good. I plan on getting these games sometime soon, and eventually a WII U and Pikmin 3.

Never heard of it but upon Googling it, I swear I've seen it before. For those who don't know what Pikmin is.. what is it? (Basic story, what you do, who you are, genre)

I'm sure there's a wikia out there but TL;DR, you're an interstellar freighter and space captain who uses Pikmin, tiny plant/animal hybrids to carry out objectives and complete tasks on a planet that is hinted heavily in Pikmin 2 to be an Earth with human existence long gone.

What exactly are the objectives/tasks? Is it essentially a gigantic sandbox game? From what you've said so far it sounds like the Space mode in Spore, where you essentially mold an empty planet to your liking.

No, not exactly. The objective of Pikmin was to collect the missing and scattered parts to the main protagonist, Captain Olimar's spaceship, the S.S. Dolphin, to get it into orbit after 30 days had gone by, which would mean his life support systems would begin to fail, and the oxygen gas on Earth would begin to poison him, as oxygen is apparently poisonous to his species, which look like miniature humans, called Hocotations.

The plot of Pikmin 2 is Captain Olimar returning to his home planet of Hocotate only to face that his employer, The President has had the company fall into crippling debt and to repay it, Captain Olimar must take new Hocotate Freight employee Louie with him back to Earth to collect assorted scrap an trash to sell to repay the debt.
