By that logic, the permamute should be lifted & an apology granted, no?

Yes, prior history would point to racism, but its like arresting someone for smelling like weed, having a prior conviction of weed, but not actually finding the weed on them.

No, saying "stupid Chinese" is no different than saying "stupid Mexican" or "stupid black person." Each of those looks discriminatory and most of the time that people use these phrases do intend discrimination.

There is enough shown, for this particular situation, to convince us that he may have not intended discrimination when he said, "stupid Chinese." That doesn't make it right or mean that people are allowed to use those phrases. Given his history, it is absolutely reasonable to believe he meant it to discriminate.

That being said, he can be unsilenced if he acknowledges this and agrees to use different language when he refers to his friend.

What about "stupid British"? Would you punish someone for saying that? Stop dodging my question.
Exactly.
Its the same if someone calls me "Nazi" only because I'm german. Nobody cares about shit like that (I dont care myself).
But normal shit-talk is part of online gaming, not even 1% of people REALLY mean what they say online.

Im glad I got unmuted but still, i dont think some are getting the point.

My friend typed this:
I don't get the point on how they don't regonise that's how u call this guy .. like a guy with a russian nick.. u'll call him Russian ... will they mute u if it was towrds a russian guy ?
Or do we have to check all profile pages to know how to pronounce nicknames ?!

People only called "chinese guy" because of its characters. Mexicans use the same characters as i do so i will just type wathever the name the players has. Thats all im trying to say.

Answering this, i commented on his profile cause i couldn't add him, when you add alot of people in a small period of time, u get a time out from steam.
Most of my mutes are justified and i didn't complain, the ones i complained were ridiculous like the time i said "Dink" (players name) and i got muted for racism https://www.skial.com/threads/tf2-appeal-juan2019tf2.116732/ . Im sure this mutes are ridiculous but count as the "enumerous chances u had".

Another topic : Who the fuck is the person that goes to a steam profile mid game just to check if you are saying the player's name the right away.

the appeal you linked that is completely understandable that it was taken out of context and a miscommunication, you shouldn't have gotten muted for that since the player's name was already displayed as that.

the reason you got permanently banned is because our system works 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month and then permanent until appealed.

so, you weren't permanently banned just for that cause yes, I do agree that is excessive and could've just been let off with a warning, but it's because that is literally how our system is since the last mute you had was 1 month, therefore the following mute would be permanent.

still though it doesn't take much effort to just check someone's name, literally 5 seconds of your time.

we can't just let jokes between friends slide off just because they know each other and they don't take offense to it, no matter what.
saying "stupid" is not at all against the rules or racist in anyway or form but saying "stupid Chinese" definitely is if taken out context just like what happened to you and would be considered discriminative and racist.

just respond back to your appeal reply that Kalashnikov had posted on this thread and read it carefully so your mute can get lifted.
the so-called "forum police" reports are very much around all the time, anything that looks suspiciously weird will be taken out of context by them and reported even when we ask them to stop multiple times.

so, what I advise you to do is to just at least take 5 seconds of your time playing to either check someone's profile and see what they go by if you don't know their name, or just literally ask in game.

and again, think twice before you type anything that could be misunderstood or taken out of context and this advice applies to every one of our players whether you're lurking reading this or interacting with this thread.

After looking at this guys mute record I deduce 3 things ...

1) This OP is deliberately an impudent person, because he knows full well the rules and the punishment for abusing them.
2) I would maybe be just as confused as they are - the offense system here seems to be all over the place? This Wata admin once muted him with the reason "Shush?"
3) I, with full heart, believe that not a single person actually cares that he said "stupid chinese" and I feel like with a little bit of deduction 2 mixed in, Kalashnikov also realized these attributes and walked back this person's perma-mute.

I might be wrong/outdated on these, or needlessly chiming in - and feel free to call out if so.

There are no confusion regarding the last permanent mute, from either side.
It didn't last, it was quick and explained as a "calm down" sort of 10 minutes silence.

I agree, im back at my house, i had a busy day. Lets continue.

While we can all agree, regardless whether it be this community or any other community we all have an established set of rules to live by in a woke society. As to my point/opinion, we are held accountable to our behavior whether we are AFK or not. Since the other player you called "stupid chinese" can be considered and interpreted as a form of sterotype does matter because you refer to a group of race. While that individual is a "friend" or not, my own opinion matters because I'm part Asian. If I saw what you had typed ingame while I was on with you, I won't comment verbally or text you because I may or may not respond back to you w/o perhaps getting a negative response from you or any other player stating what you commented.

I say this to you because I'm proud to have been born with part Asian heritage in me. I have had more than my fair share of bullying. I think of anywhere I go in life is to show simple "respect" to one another as you would want to be treated back in return. If someone where to call me C***k, does not afford me the opportunity to do harm to that individual as a knee jerk reaction(s). I'm proud of my asian community where I live and yes I admit I do call some Asians "stupid" only because they either choose to ignore the new Western culture they live in or they don't know the customary norms. Nevertheless I am expected to be patient, tolerant and respectful.

There are rules in life and there are consequences if they are breached, then guess what? I'm no different than you as you are from me. I still have to follow the rules like everyone else including the admins.

Look across at all the social platforms and there is always moderation for content that could be considered crossing the T/C's.

In conclusion. I'm sorry you got called out for your "stupid chinese' remark, but as a skial community player like you., I found your comment "insulting" to me if not to the other player you referenced to. Skial always is/has been inclusive and welcoming to everyone. And yes, we can always agree to disagree on issues. Skial is our host and house rules are there. And yes I've been called a "janny" and If I see/hear comments that l percieve crosses the line, I expect the admins to do their due diligence on whether my "claim(s) are valid or not.

And yes, you have a strong point about "context" and generally most if not all my reports have the aforementioned evidence to substantiate my allegations. And I 100% agree that we individuals shouldn't/never troll the chatlogs for the sake of filing reports.

If you looked at my profile, you would see this,

So for everyone who sees/reads my post, comments made online verbally or text can/could be interpreted as offensive. Thanks for allowing me to share my view point.

You are one of the users who scrolls through chatlogs reporting everything. Your opinion has been officially discarded.
Yes to add to my reports I've submitted. If Admins wishes to delete my opinion, they can. Also I don't recall recieving a dm from any admins of what I was doing anything malicious. I guess your comment is to discourage me from participating in the skial forums...

This is toxic and unnecessary flaming. He’s an an active member of the community, making reports with evidence he records from being in the server, and his opinion is valid.

You need to stop attacking others and let this go.

I’ve mentioned this before, but there is definitely a rush to mute for, honestly, weak “derogatory” remarks based off just chat log reports. The people that make those reports by scanning through the chat logs and never stepping foot into the server provide little to no value. I’ve always been of the opinion that if someone on the server finds issue with what’s being said, they’d make a report. If not, it clearly didn’t ruffle anyone’s jimmies.

This situation just proves that fact, and saying “he should look up his steam profile” or “google translate the name” is a little much. I’ve played on the servers with individuals with non-English characters and seen others, over chat or voice, say “Hey Asian characters, shut the fuck up” which is almost exactly what happened here. The fact he’s been muted a dozen times (with varying degrees of consistency) really shouldn’t factor in to the current report, since it’s an isolated incident.

I really wouldn’t be opposed to there being a limit to how many reports you can post in a certain period of time, because we’ve had situations where people make like a dozen reports in an hour because they have some weird online punishment kink.

This is the current guideline, we mark reports obviously done with that invalid (with certain extremes an exception such as illegal things)
