So, I am going to try to get an actual gaming PC in the coming months. More than likely it will have to be a laptop though unless the price is right. I need serious help as I have no clue how to build one or even what is actually necessary. I know there are some smart guys on here so I ask you all for a hand on picking what I need. Not outrageously priced. I'll get a price range in time but could I get some general help?

I have a (And I know this sounds old school and strange) Dell Inspiron. And it runs everything from BF4 to Wolfenstien pretty well, IF you can keep it constantly cooled (Like how I have a mini-fan)
I got it for 600 bucks and it has given me any problems for almost two years now.

Edit: I pruchased this from Best Buy online, and Dell's are built pretty durably.

Best Buy is thw worse place to buy PC from. @CDAWG: Have you checked through previous hundreds of threads here, in this section, asking to help with PC? Please, provide more specifics. Particularly:
  • What your budget is;
  • What purpose will this PC is gonna serve (gaming, office);
  • Are you looking for peripherals as well (monitor, keyboard and mouse, sound system).

That is my thing. I am not tech savvy enough to know. I am trying to get a budget but I won't know until the money comes in. It is going to be gaming and it depends if I go laptop or desktop. Really this is raw at the moment. I apologize for not providing a lot of information. I really would like some general recommendations to start and go from there

If you want a gaming rig, laptop would not be your choice. Unless, of course, you are ready to spend like $2k on Alienware laptops. And without a budget it's not possible to advise what parts you should buy. Also, are you looking for DIY project (buying parts and putting them all together), or you want to buy "ready-to-go" desktop?

Aye, I couldn't tell you at this moment. I appreciate the help but I should have posted this when I knew what the budget was. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll update when I have an actual idea on what I can get

Most decent gaming desktops are around $700 for one that can run anything. A little more will have longevity and performance. Building it yourself is cheaper and not as difficult as it seems.

So I got a budget: $1200. I got a cousin in gaming whose gonna help me build it but could use some help picking parts

You can do well with that budget. I am glad you are building instead of premade. You are going to get a lot of bang for your buck. Plus the building process is fun.

I will link you some stuff on Steam. Psycho will point you in the right direction too.

This website may help you.but a tip of advice the stuff you pick out, be sure to research it to made sure it isn't garbage. I didn't do that and ended up have to get a new psu a year after I bought my pc only to find out the psu I first bought was garbage
