Blizzard on hackers in Overwatch

Well reporting them, more specifically

I'm curious tho, did they ever say they're using anti-cheating software?

I imagine they must be, but they're always extremely quiet about anticheating software across all their games. They didn't even give WoW's anti-cheating software a name until they had to bring it up in court.

I imagine there will definitely be some anti-cheat in place. For the beta being free, there was a surprisingly lack of cheats I ran into. I may have ran into one, but that's even up for debate - I don't like to throw that around often. I can say, I've probably ran into more cheaters on the last two days pubbing tf2, than I did in my entire history in the closed beta, and open beta.

Only good thing I had was a Mei legendary but I don't play Mei so I could give less than a shit

The only drops I got for my mains were sprays and voice clips I dislike. However I did get 200 coins which I could've used for lucio's lapis lazuli skin.

Speaking of loot am I the only one uspet that they're putting in microtransactions in a $40 ($60 on consoles) game?

They're going to be charging for extra lootboxes, lootboxes which the only way to obtain for free is through leveling. Once you hit a certain level time between levels takes extremely long and your level eventually caps out.

From that point onward, the only way to get lootboxes will be through buying them and they're very likely going to be $1 or more per box. And its all randomized

So that one fancy skin you never got is probably going to cost you $20+ and a lot of luck.

When I saw the price tag of the game I figured we wouldn't have to deal with this crap in a pay to play game. If it was free to play it would be more than understandable but its not F2P

I'm gonna buy it a few days after launch if they add a drop system.
If they don't then I might not bother at all, idk.

Where did you see this because all I can find is speculation about microtransactions

"But we’ve had this system in for about two months internally, and it’s something that a lot of us really want is the ability to purchase additional loot boxes. So we’re definitely exploring if that’s a system we can pursue, and there’s a lot of interest around it. It’s definitely something we’d like to do."

There was also a more recent interview with Blizzard on Overwatch, haven't found the video again yet but they were further talking about purchasing lootboxes, they just weren't set on the price yet but the community is badgering them to do $1 or more per box because gamers are idiots who always tell developers they'll pay max price for things

tbh I'm fine with buying loot boxes but $1.00 seems like a lot for a loot box.

As long as we have other ways to obtain loot boxes or other things for free then I'm happy

Like what they did with heroes of the storm where you can do dailies to get gold to unlock heroes. Maybe they could give us coins for each match won or something

But chances are high you'll only get so many lootboxes, the rest will be over priced rng boxes you have to buy.

hmmm i dont really think that a loot box purchasing system would work in overwatch, definitely for 1 dollar per box, i doubt that this is gonna get implemented

You'd be very surprised at the people willing to toss money into stuff like this. They've proven people buy into this stuff time and time again in their other games. World of Warcraft charges exorbitant prices for various things like $25 per toon server transfers, $10-20 for little cosmetic companions that follow you around, $15+ cosmetic gear, $20 tokens people sell for gold and who knows what else is to come

Heroes of the Storm has $10-15 skins and charges $5-10 per hero. Hearthstone has people spending literal thousands on virtual playing cards to finish decks.

Overwatch won't be in any different when it comes to people throwing money at what ever Blizzard offers. Not everyone will do it, but there will always be people who buy into this stuff which means they have no incentive to offer these things for free beyond the finite amount of lootboxes you get from leveling because why do it when there's microtransaction 'whales' out there willing to throw hundreds into virtual item boxes?

Apparently once you hit level 100 you can reset back to 1 for more loot.

tbh I don't have an issue. If they were letting you buy straight skins, or something like that, I would. I don't mind additional incentive for them to keep coming up with new, great skins. I think it's actually a pretty good idea since they aren't an impact on the game.
