I would like start by apologizing if it seems like this communication regarding this particular event is late. I’ve been very busy for the last few weeks between work, learning, personal projects and some personal health issues and have had very little time to slow down and look at things. By the time I did, I was able to start seeing the actual scope of how much the pot was being stirred, coinciding with how much I started to get DM’d about this.
I would like to formally apologize to @Bottiger if it seemed I had just abruptly stopped work on Skial VSH; the intention was moreso that I felt had helped with Skial’s VSH2 balance as best as I could with the given parameters. I was still largely prepared to check in with Skial VSH to continue to monitor for potential issues should they arise, but after seeing I had been removed from the balancing position, I ended up dropping this plan.
Speaking of VSH2, I would like to put forward that the project I’m working on is NOT supposed to be a direct competitor specifically to Skial, nor is it even going to be VSH2. I’m involved with a more serious, longer term project that we are going to call VSH3 because we intend to drastically change many of the components of the gamemode.
Bottiger and I may have not seen eye to eye all the time on how we should go about balancing the mode, but I completely agree with him in the analogy that balancing current, modern VSH is like trying to keep a boat from sinking with a spoon. Modern VSH’s status quo has strayed so far from the original design that it saddens me, and I aim to take a crack at redesigning and redefining that status quo altogether.
We’re attracting attention from regulars and veterans from BLW, VSHData, TBC, DISC-FF, even pulling some old farts out of the woodwork from all over, not just Skial. Point being that this is meant to be a new and experimental creative venture for anyone to try out and enjoy (or critique!)
So, on to the drama. I’m not quite surprised, but ultimately disappointed all around on peoples’ behavior.
To those of you going out of your way to antagonize Skial, cut it out. There’s no point to acting so immature and flagrant about it, if you don’t like the server, just stop playing on it. I and others in the servers we share as the overall VSH community have condemned this type of conduct repeatedly. I understand this has been an overall communal issue spanning years I realistically can’t stop, but nonetheless, I’m going to make a point to post this forum post to the relevant Discord servers because I would like to cement my stance on this topic. Stop looking for drama and, for God’s sake, play the damn game.
To the Skial staff, I’m sorry that you had to deal with the uncivilized nonsense some of these people put up for you. While I do not necessarily agree with Skial’s rules on the matter, I fully support and respect your right to enforce your rules on items such as advertising as you see fit, and have no qualms with them getting punished for breaking the rules. As much as I would like to help you, this is unfortunately likely the most I can do.
That being said, I also urge you not to not stoop to their level. It really encourages them. I understand that my server might’ve been a catalyst for this shift in the social dynamic, and some of these people have been stressful to handle to say the least, but talking about them or me in a derogatory manner will just continue to fuel the fire. Of course, hopefully we can put the fire out once and for all right here.
In conclusion, let me reiterate. I’m asking for a ceasefire from everyone. No more talking shit and starting fights. Drop it. Just play the game you want to play and leave it at that.
