Serious question: Should I read Mein Kampf, The Prince and Dante's Inferno?
They've all been acclaimed as "evil" books, but they all seem so interesting.
Bear in mind, I'm bored pretty easily and books aren't something I particularly enjoy, sadly

Yeah sure, unless you want to take it seriously and feel the sudden urge to kill Jewish people.

Mein Kampf isn't anything special, no one would have ever read it if it wasn't created by Hitler.
You'll get bored with it quickly

Where the Red Fern Grows was a great book. I read that along with the Outsiders which is also an incredible book

Time to bring this thread back from the graveyard.

I recently just picked up the Scot Harvath series by Brad Thor, if you're into the entire secret service type thing, it's a fun read - the first book anyway..can't attest for the others just yet.

Not my most favorite book (because I can't for my love say just one, but it's someone by Dean Koontz.), but you all should totally read Metro 2033. A game is even based on it, so all you nerds should already be well informed what it's all about!

Well written book (exclude the cockblock of names that you need to remember, but there's a map in the book for reference) that is about the downfall of humanity and how the few left are trying to stay alive in the metro system of Moscow; while not getting eaten by terrifying creatures born from the radioactive ash of the former civilization.

Mein Kampf is just Hitler's biography. It's like any other biography; skewed world view, lots of underlying politics and ego-masturbation.

Yeah, I wasn't really impressed with Mein Kampf either. It's just the ramblings of a man without a clear view of the world. Luckily it's short, so if you do decide to read it, it won't take you forever, it just won't be particularly interesting. Unless criminal psychology is your schtick. I did enjoy reading Dante's Inferno, although it is long and tedious. The copy of the Divine Comedy I have has the original Italian, as well as the English translation, which makes the book massive.

These days I really don't read fiction anymore. I spend so much time reading about the intelligence community and the cold war for my second degree, that I have time for little else. There are excellent books on these topics, in case history is something you can more easily read and be entertained by. "The Dark Side of Camelot", by Seymour Hersh is about John Kennedy, and is actually very good. It's a different perspective, that at the time was very new and has changed what is taught about him today. Another book which I found incredibly interesting is "Back to Our Future", by David Sirota. It discusses how the western world, especially The United States, is stuck in the 1980s. Culturally, politically, economically, everything. Once you read it, it makes things look a bit different. Back to Our Future is a book I'd recommend to pretty much everyone.

Finished The Catcher in the Rye yesterday, cool book. Surprised I didn't read it when I studied English, but I guess that would have killed it for me because I see studying fiction as an absolute sin. Looking forward to reading other classics like The Great Gatsby and American Psycho.

Haddix is my favorite author, read the first 4-5 books in "This Missing" series, and have read a lot of her standalone books.
Also I'm gonna read the 3rd hunger games book soon.

I'm currently in the middle of The Diviners and looking forward to reading The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet next

GOD DAMNIT I WAS GOING TO COMMENT ON HOW I WASNT GOING TO OPEN THE SPOILER BUT WHEN I QUOTED IT IT SHOWS THE TEXT GOD DAMNIT BLADE.

In fairness, it wasn't a massive surrpise :D It should have been fairly obvious it was going to happen.

just finished A is for Amour. I want to read the next ones, and planning on getting B is for Bondage soon.

The Queen's Thief series, 1984, Cry of the Icemark, the first Sherlock stories (later stories felt so lifeless), Little Brother, Lord of the Flies, Holes, Of Mice and Men, The Glass Castle, The Hollow Kingdom Trilogy, and Incarceron.
