I am looking at doing some charity work abroad somewhere.
And i saw some opportunities in Au Pair services in America (US).
Can anyone over the pond offer any experiences or things i should be aware about?

Well I think it depends on the state and what you're doing exactly charity wise. Au Pair has always been a weird concept to me since you're not a servant really, but you essentially work for the host family, etc.

Yea hence the reason i asked, we don't really have this in England

Its great that you want to do charity work, help your fellow man who has fallen into despair. I applaud you for this, but the best advice I can give you is to stay home. The world is in such crisis right now, that I'd not recommend anyone to leave the homeland. Help around your community, help strengthen those around you so whatever may come, you and your loved ones are assured that you are there with them. It is a rocky path in front of us all, and it may go on for a long while. Hold on tight to them, and you will be better for it.

Thanks :)

I'm taking a break from University, before i either go back or get a job.
I'm looking at volunteer work around the globe, so like Teaching in South America or turtle conservation work.

I saw some good reviews about Au Pair work but i didn't really have an idea what it entails.

It's really going to depend on where you would be going. I just looked at the criteria and it costs the host family an application fee of $5,500-$7,000...holy cow.

I'l most likely go to South Africa for Turlte work tbh, or Build a well in an African Village.
I've been looking for the past couple hours and i don't think Au Pair work is for me...

I worked with a few people that volunteered in The Peace Corps and worked on water quality stuff in Africa and South America. They really enjoyed being able to provide clean water sources. Cheers to you for wanting to help in some way.
:)

Funny enough, I dated one of those Au Pair nannies hahaha... Anyways you basically join the program and families will look at youtr profile to see if you're what they want in a nanny/housekeeper/whatever you wanna call it. Then they will usually conduct a phone interview and get to know you a little better and if they want you and you choose to go with that family you'll move in with them. I do believe you also get paid a little bit and you'll have work hours as well. You usually work for rich families so thats a plus sometimes. Once you're with a family you're there for a certain amount of time and then you can move on to another family or if they want to retain you and you want to stay i do believe you have that option. Hope that helps ya.
