Question,moral question to be precice.

What is your moral stance about trading?
Lets take an example, you buy a dirty hat for 1 rec,and sell it for 2 rec, thats not immoral,i know that, but what if you buy something off of someone who does not know its true value?
A new player has found the high five taunt, you then immdiatly send a trade request and tell him you want what he just got,you offer him a couple of weapons or hats that do not equal the true value of the item,he accepts the trade and you get what you wanted, and he got what he wanted not knowing the true value of what he just gave away...
The first example was simply making profit like most players do,and like i have done for most of my trades(my opinion, you can contridect this if you wish) second one, was,by my stance, not very moral even if he didnt know the true value...
I made this thread to hear your opinion,so please do post it!

And yes i just wrote this wall of text in one setting :alone:

Trading is all about trial and error.
But i think that if both parties are content, it's a fair trade.

I believe if someone trades and doesn't know a thing about it, it is their fault if they get low balled or scammed.

I ask what they want for shit before offering and if he wants less than what it's worth then I'm happy and he's happy. That's how I got my Strange Rocket Launcher for 3 ref.

I just accept what they put in if its what I want or more. Although you get instances like this where I said I want 4 ref for something and the offered 2 keys...

There's two parts to this.

The first part is if the seller, who doesn't know the value, asks for something incredibly low. For instance, I bought a DOTA 2 key a few months ago for 8 keys, because the seller thought it was only worth about 5 keys or so (and I offered more keys than someone else in the chat room did). This was back when DOTA 2 keys were going for a buds.

This is fine, by most people. The seller had the responsibility to find out what his item was worth and did not. Since he asked for a low price, that's what he got.

However, on the other side of the coin, there are people who will find people who don't know the value, and will make low offers to them. This is commonly referred to as "sharking". It's terrible trading etiquette and very scummy behavior. There are actually several people who are well-known sharks, such as who_is_scorpion (who claims to be a reformed shark and a better person these days, but you can still catch him making low offers to noob players), and even people here on Skial, such as one of our highest ranking traders who shall not be named (but he knows who I'm talking about and will surely be rating this post "dumb" or "troll" shortly). EDIT: Nope, he rated "Disagree", instead. I knew you'd be here, though.

Sharking is not okay. The difference between sharking and taking advantage of a good deal is that the shark takes advantage of the seller's lack of knowledge. If a seller asks for 1 ref for his Bill's Hat, that's his problem. He should have price checked it and found out what it's worth. If a shark comes up to some guy and offers 1 ref for his Bill's Hat, that puts the seller in a bad position where he's being lied to about the value of his item.

So basically, the morality depends on who makes the first offer, the seller or the buyer, and if it's the buyer's intention to rip off the seller.

I don't actively shark but if a retard says a ref for a team captain is fine it's his stupidity. Which is not a scam

Exactly. If somebody feels happy accepting a ref for a Team Captain, then they're happy and it wasn't a scam to them. But if you try to manipulate somebody into thinking that a ref for a Team Captain is fair, then you're the bad guy.

Don't get me wrong, if he's an utter retard I'd offer a ref first.

Sharking and lowballing warrant a ban on other unusual trade servers (which are actually doing better than Skials very own US20 by the way).

If immorality gets you in jail, according the scamming(Laugh Taunt for 1 ref) people who don't the price, Piero would have a life sentence.
