So this suggestion will be sort of similar to some other suggestions, but more of a complete overhaul idea in regards to the map rotation on both the EU and US deathrun servers. It's been something I've discussed with numerous other players who are regulars on the servers.

Just to get straight into the idea, it's basically about switching up some of the older deathrun maps (To name a few random ones, maps like dr_bank, dr_wintervalley, dr_office, dr_cocainum and dr_safety_first. But instead of just replacing them and that's it, perhaps it can be done as a sort of "OG map replacement". What I mean by this is having a separate rotation in the main one dedicated to these older maps. So using the examples above, they would be classed as "OG/Old map slots" and so there would be 5 of those. But after x amount of time has passed (So let's say a month), those specific maps are rotated out with another set of maps, which we could call "Map Packs".

I'll break down below an example of how it would be. So we're currently on month 1 which has the maps that I've mentioned above. Then next month would have the 2nd map pack in to replace those from the 1st map pack. And then the month after that, would replace the 2nd with the 3rd one. Then back to the 1st map pack on the month after

(Again these map packs are just an example and not what maps I am saying should be in since that's up to the community to suggest the actual maps for the maps packs. You could choose to have more, or even increase/decrease the time between map packs). Perhaps there's a possibility for this to be automated somehow?

Now DON'T CLICK OFF just yet if you think "Oh no we don't need more maps adding, hurr durr -1 to the post", since this idea is more about replacing existing ones but only on a temporary basis, to refresh the map selection but "without it directly affecting modern/up to date maps". A playlist in a playlist basically. In a way, this also allows a bit of competition against others servers (Where I won't name which ones, but certain ones just flooding their servers with literally too many maps at once that you can't even find the map you want from a huge list) by constantly rotating in maps overtime to just refresh the server up. Some people may come and say "Well get rid of dr_playstation and dr_lazytown because they're overplayed to hell", and I personally say no to that because they are what keep the server alive. Removing popular/overplayed maps will drop numbers for sure and this makes the map pack idea more viable because, we're not taking away these older/classic maps away completely, we're just shuffling them every so often.

But yeah, you've got the basic idea on this suggestion. Feel free to drop feedback below since I'd like to hear what you all think of this idea.

Here's my suggestion (2020-2021 and 2021-2022 are what I probably remember if they used to be on rotation.)
Edit: Nvm if og map pack are done, they should be map 2 and 3

-1 most of these maps were removed for bugs and exploits and generally weren't removed for being unpopular. If you want these maps back then start making stripper configs to fix them.

The maps I posted weren't the maps that I was choosing as I mentioned in the thing. They were examples, so of course maps selected would still need to comply to basic functionality and playtesting (Along with any configs, or edits if permission is given)

I do like seeing some older maps removed years ago getting another shot at Skial again such as hotline miami but the fact that it is on a rotation is kind of a bummer for me, lets say i like to play black mesa and its currently on the 1st rotation, I have to wait 2 months to play my favorite map.
Sure, there are other maps in the current map rotation I might enjoy, but the fact I have to wait 2 months over and over just to play a map I especially enjoy doesn't really sit right with me and it kind of reminds me of the map pools that Overwatch 2 use to have back in the first three seasons of the game, a large portion of the community hated this and it has been deprecated since.

Take the stuff that happened with map pools in Overwatch 2 as you will since reactions from Skial may differ from that over Overwatch 2 (if Bottiger ever decides to put this feature on his servers, of course).

Yeah I completely understand your views on that. The example of just saying "1 month cycles" is purely an example. Perhaps if this idea was potentially approved, then we could do a community vote on maybe when the maps could be cycled through (It could be every week, maybe every two weeks). And everything is all about trial and error, so if some timeframes don't work out, then it can always be adjusted down the line.

And like you mentioned at the start, it's just good to allow other maps (Mostly older maps that can "still work" or may need some minor tweaks/edits done that could be added) to be added into the rotation. The last thing anyone would want is a roster of 80-100 maps where you've just got too many at that point and then even newer maps may get ignored then too (Which can demotivate some map makers to making more in the future)
