Somewhat Threatening Sniper
Due to last years update regarding the casual bot banning wave, a massive exodus of players has happened that rendered 24 player eu skial dead for days at a time and some days not even reaching +15 players, due to this most player opt joining the 64 players server due to the higher average amount of players, in my opinion lowering the number to 32 will not only improve gameplay quality where it encourages fast paced playstyles and discouraging base sieges where one team will sit outside the others base spamming sentries rockets pipes etc.. but this would also increase the playercount to the 24 player server from larger 2fort skial server.
This would also have massive improvement on the performance of the server allowing it to run smoothly and for the players to get better performance aswell.

Ive asked multiple people about this matter and they've had the same opinion as me about this. I hope that you take my suggestion into consideration because ever since it died a community of people died with it.

There is already a 32 player 2fort+ EU. Switching to 32 may kill the server. 64 player is full at the time of this writing, so it must be popular. Why take it away if it is popular?
Because:
A: A lot of players don't like the playstyle it brings since 2fort is cramped so it just turns into turtling
B: The players who do not like it can't as easily move into the other servers because the 64 player server sucks most of the players up (and a lot of people don't bother joining or just deal with 64 because of the low player counts which is a negative feedback loop which could be helped by having players spread across more servers)
C: There seems to be less players overall across the servers after the introduction (haven't fully checked though)
D: The existing players will simply spill over into 2fort+ 2 and 24 2fort
E: There is massive support here and I can see practically every single name I've played with on 24 2fort in this thread

From player perspective, 64 players on 2fort is not good, like really, 2fort was never designed for this amount of players inside of it, tf2 by itself was never designed for that sizes of teams, it isn't a battlefield spinoff. But, if i don't like it - i can't easily join servers with less amount of people, because they are pretty much dead (it's not fun to play with bots, and very unlikely that major part of people will join dead servers). 64 2fort experience is just constant fps drops, meetings with insane number of projectiles and ubers in very tight spaces (like sewers) and sitting inside the base because all of that. And as mentioned earlier: people want to play some 2fort, they see that other servers are dead, they join 64 one, they play some time on it, when they return to play some 2fort again, they see that other servers are still dead, they don't want to deal with bots, they don't want to deal with waiting for others, they choose the easier way, server that is already filled - 64 server, repeating the loop.

This kind of logic keeps me from ever joining Dustbowl 40 & Payload 40 again. I kinda miss them and their denizens. If I would join them, that would be seen as an endorsement ig ("you must like it if you join"). So I won't.

this is the sentiment that me and most people in this thread share

Having both 64 players and 24 players worked fine until last summer when overall tf2 playercount started dropping, now that only 64 player server is active, EU players no longer have a choice but to choose the quantity over quality server

64 players has easier time to stay filled as several people quitting at once does not necessarily kill the server like it might do to lower playercount servers. Which is why people will naturally join that one instead of the empty 24 slot server despite the gameplay being lower in quality

Checked teamwork.tf + an archive from a year ago around the same time (and day since leap year)
The player count is about the same
This seems to be more of a skial ctf falling off likely due to 64 players sucking up players

What time did you take that snapshot from? This is 2.6.2024 at 19.00

This is 2.5.2025 at 19.00. You can see that community servers have lost around ~2000 players while casual remained mostly same

why make 40❓ 32 was perfect amount of players, when you make it 40 people less frames more lags more engi spam less freedom also, its funny to see how you revert usa back to 32 just because they got money which shows that you care only about money and not the players. wonder when the day you will actually listen to the players🤔

I took a long break from TF2 and when I came back the 24 player server was completely dead with poor moderation and barely any admins on to punish the vile speech I heard, 64 is simply not fun and just a quick ten minute dopamine grab because nothing interesting can happen, ninjaneering is impossible, scout and spy are dead on arrival (Sniper to a extent) and constant voice spamming from 3 people, 24 was full all the time and only the top scoreboarders stay on 64 for long periods of time, 24 2fort was perfect and it should still be THE server for 2fort

Best idea i've seen today

The player count is about the same

It's almost 40% lower compared to last year.

We've also noticed a huge drop in players on custom game modes, not just 2fort, so this is not caused by changing to 64 slots.

If the "player count is about the same", this means that the 64 slot servers are saving us when they would probably be 40% lower otherwise.

i feel like going into further detail regarding the spillover effect this change would have on the servers. if this does indeed go forwards and the player count is halved, people that dont feel like sitting in queue to join would join one of the two other 2fort servers.

The 64 slot servers frequently get 100% full and there is 0 spillover to the lower slot servers. We also have a 32 slot 2fort NY server that is half full for most of the day. This is proof that there's fewer people that want or care about lower slot counts.

If you are a fan of the 32 and 24 slot servers, I would recommend that you fill and join them instead of trying to force everyone to play on them. If your theory that lower slot counts are more desired, then they wouldn't have died out compared to the 64 slot ones.

What is most likely to happen if we force the 64 slot server down to 32 slots, is that they would fill and there would be 0 spillover and we'd permanently lose half the players.
