Hey guys, I'm looking at possibly getting a new laptop. I'm going to be getting it at Best Buy if I do (gift cards + trade in) but I want to know I'm getting something that will work with what I do.

I do my high school on the computer via video streaming, along with post-secondary college course work. This is my main focus, though I also would like it to be able to run CS:GO for at LEAST 60+ FPS. If it can also run games like Batman: Arkham Origins, Bioshock infinite, etc. at solid FPS that would be GREATLY appreciated, as well as run programs such as Eclipse, Unity, Monodevelop and Gamemaker.

From looking at Best Buy's website I've been really looking at the Lenovo G50 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-...lack/8532575.p?id=1219345071697&skuId=8532575) and Asus X550LA (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-15...gray/6643023.p?id=1219229364828&skuId=6643023) due to the fact my current laptop has a Intel i5 processor and HD Graphics 4000 and runs the games mentioned well (battery is near death on it + other factors) but I am basically just unsure which is better and just want to be sure if I get one I'm not gonna be stuck with something that doesn't fit my needs.

Thanks for the help, and if anyone has other suggestions you see my wishlist and it should be A) Able to buy at Best Buy and B) 500 USD or less.

Thanks again!

My advice: Wait till after the new year and the next gen laptops come out, then make a choice.

Better laptops for the same price range within a few months? I'll do that then... any info on any new laptops coming?

Lenovo's a good brand, but my best advice would be to wait for all the "back to school" summer sales. I got almost $300 off my Lenovo laptop on a weekly sale. I don't know what kind of sales Best Buy does but sometimes waiting for the new ones is totally worth it.

No, but you can be sure they will be pushing end of the line over the holidays and Jan sales. Pricing is the only issue that will be a bugbear.
What I am saying is you already have a good laptop, don't splash out on something that is not much better, when you know how fast tech is moving. by spring there will no doubt be better specs for lower prices.

Both laptops you've chosen have integrated Intel® HD Graphics 4400... HERE you can find benchmark tests for this card. Close to the middle of the article there is an FPS chart for different games (Game benchmarks chapter). You decide.

Summary: sorry to upset you, but for $500 you won't find a laptop which would match your gaming needs. (I've updated the pics above, by the way)
