I kinda thought so too. Ever since Kirby Super Star (and Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland) He was pretty much good in Kirby 64 (but he was a boss got he got cursed by some black sphere or methinks "Zero")

at the end of the vertical section, head to the right and look at the tree. (I hope this is the one you are talking about)

Also, King DeDeDe isn't ALWAYS a bad guy. He is the king of Dreamland. He's still kind of a douchey tyrant, but he'll still do nice things sometimes. Same goes for Meta Knight.
