So i kinda learend some features on gimp...any ideas how to soften this pic up and make it...better, it cant have too many layers though or else it gets too big...sooo yeah

for animation you could use flash
for making art from scratch you could use paint.net, paint tool sai, or photoshop
the only thing that gimp has going for it is that it's simple, free, and easy to learn imo

I prefer nearly anything over GIMP. There are plenty of free drawing/image editing software out there with a much better interface.

As a gimp user, I agree it could be better, but it's efficient, easy to learn, ect.
I am not a professional, I know how to make Gifs but I hate it and am bad at it, I could not help you.
I use it for image manipulation because, as stated before, fast and EZ.

Adobe is a piece of shit. ESPECIALLY Flash.

Their media suite is amazing, actually.

As for OP, Photoshop and Illustrator will suffice for most the work that you want to do, even animating.

still cant figure out how you made those forum sigs Sroy, i literally tried most of what i know of gimp and still cant get the combo's right, maybe I'm just GIMP deficient

well it works for what you want it for, other programs have there features but GIMP works out for what i use it for (mainly sprays for tf2)

I still use paintshop pro 7, which includes animation shop. I've never found anything so simple to use.
