Nintendo fails because...
They can't innovate and refuse to acknowledge that video games have evolved since Super Mario Bros.
They market heavily to children, even though a good portion of their audience is over 20 or even over 30.
They pursue the fad market, failing to realize that the fad market is extremely fickle and disloyal.
They constantly re-release the same games with slight tweaking. The same Marios, the same Zeldas, the same Pokemons, blah, blah, blah...
They buck industry trends, unless those they hold the patents for those trends.
They are obsessed with gimmick technology.
They picked a fight with Apple. (Oh shit.)
They suck at reading their customers, assuming they even try. (Millions of voices crying out for Mother 3? What's this? Another Mario Party? FUS RO DAH!)

Nintendo survives because...
Their brand has loyal costumers who will buy a turd in a box as long as the box has Mario on the cover.
They've dominated the handheld market for decades. (Right up until they released the Virtual Boy 2.)
They are capable of making good games when they want to. (Metroid Prime anyone?)

Also, Wii is the only current generation console without a HDMI option. I think It's quite frustrating when I have to play Xenoblade Chronicles with grainy graphics on my widescreen.

Nintendo fails? Hardly. We all know that WiiMusic is the game that defined the current generation.

The fact that they refuse to re-release EarthBound shows how afraid they are due to legal action and references to copyrighted music 'n shit.

Fuck Nintendo.
