It's about time we clear up our stance on sexual orientation insults.

It doesn't matter to a ridiculous amount how it's done. But we need to do it. IMO, there's quite a ton too much admin discretion in skial anyway, but when it comes to homosexual slurs, it gets utterly ridiculous.

What's known so far is that "faggot" is, in general, not considered a homosexual slur(which in itself is ridiculous but acceptable considering the usage of the word on the internet.) But will we, for fuck's sake, equate any obvious slurs, semantics forgotten, with racism? I say this because two mentions of "nigger" and you get yourself a three-day ban; call regulars on the server cocksuckers and insult them by saying they suck dick and you'll get muted at the very worst.

Please, people, PLEASE decide if we're going to be intelligent and treat these the same way or if we're not going to ban for it at all. At least I can know that even KillerZebra(I'm only mentioning you because you're one of the more lenient admins) will ban for obvious racism despite warnings, but it gets stupid if I have to wait for Lady Violet(for example) to get on because I know most of the other admins would never ban for obvious things.

Is this because the pony shit is brought up on the server? Unsure what servers this behavior takes place on but I have to think there was something done for the back and forth to start. I mean if your a dick in general and bring up that you gay someone will use that to go back at you for being a dick. Same thing with the pony waving. Most of the server population is past the pony shit in our faces over and over. You like the show and we get it. You don't see me spamming spray's of Son's of Anarchy..........

If someone just joins to hammer the gay community then they are gone. But from what I know of you I think you bring it on yourself.

I was on a trade server just a few weeks back and a 14 year old got on the mic. This guy was hammering the kid but then started with the brony/pony talk. He just got done hammering on a kid trying to get a trade down. He turned everyone off with his over the top speech on a young kid on the mic but got defensive when others came to help the kid out and he got beat up on his brony talk. Wasn't because he was gay he got it back but because he acted like an ass.

...Did you even read this thread? This is not about people insulting me, or whoever, because of being a brony. That has literally nothing to do with this, period. This thread is about how we need to figure out some kind of concrete stance for how we deal with sexual orientation insults. That's because the N-word has no alternate meanings. As much as *I* don't like it, "faggot" does have some wiggle room because it's not considered a homophobic slur to all nations and cultures to which Skial serves. However, using it in a homophobic nature will get you banned. It's contextual.

FYI, "queer" is actually a term most of my gay, bi, and non-cis-gender friends self-identify as. I have a polyamorous bi friend who's constantly calling herself a queer and it's what the community as a whole identifies themselves as.

Well, CD, frankly I don't really see that I'm really calling out admins. I'm afraid I don't know KZ's stance on this...which is why I didn't mention it, I mentioned him as an example of one of the more lenient admins, and I don't really think anyone can dispute that. As for Lady Violet, well, I think she's mentioned on the forums a few times that she does ban for this and I know from personal experience.

Also, with all due respect, a lot of black people self-identify as "nigger". Whether people choose to accept the insult or not(which is absolutely awesome), it's still an insult, it still shows intent for the insult, and it's still racist or homophobic.

So I'm not going to bother reading this because it's really up to admin discretion whether or not they see it as insulting. It's a grey area and always will be one. I don't know if you're genuinely an idiot Perseus or you just like to stir up shit (because that's exactly what this thread is going to do.) Go to any community, they aren't banning for faggot because too many 12-year olds use the term and that's the generation so I don't think we're going to do anything about it except in more extreme cases. If Violet thinks it's clear, then that's her decision and if someone comes in requesting an unban for it, then she has to deal with it.
