Insult to sexual orientation

So, there's been a lot of debate about this whole thing. I personally think that if one player insults another player by calling them a "faggot", then that should be against the rules because it would be considered an insult to sexual orientation. What do you guys think?

I think if someone complains, then mute. But not an on-sight thing like racism

Personally for me, I find it offensive all the time because some of the friends that I have outside of all this are gay. I wouldn't say ban but I think a mute/gag like for racism would be sufficient.

Are you gay? Is the person they are speaking of gay? It is hard to prove that it is insulting a persons sexual orientation.

Why not a silence? I understand players having a problem with seeing/hearing this but a ban?
 
I'm not gay. Even if the other person is or isn't gay, I still think it's silence worthy.
 
Racism and other insults to gender, religion and sexual orientation. Does not include discussion of why it is against the rules.
  • Any form of the word nigger (nigga, nigg etc.) is not allowed even if you are just quoting a rap song or you are black, to prevent actual racists from using the same excuse.

A lot of the people here say that it's up to the discretion of the admin. That's why I made this thread.
 
It's been brought up so many times faggot is so commonly used the admins decided not to ban for it
 
In the rules it says insult towards sexual orientation is against the rules. The word "ni**er" is also common but people get in trouble for that really quickly. Even if it is common, it still needs to be addressed.

I think that if a regular player went to an admin over this, and was genuinely insulted, they might do something. If that isn't the case they need to remove it from the rules.

I understand what you're saying. It isn't like racism which is mute/gag on sight, but if someone complains about it, action would probably be taken.
 
I usually won't silence for it, unless they say something like "FILTHY FAGS GOD HATES YOU".
 
Any insult towards sexual orientation should be a mute, in my opinion. Even if the player who said it or the player who was insulted aren't gay, I find it offensive because some of my friends are gay. If they say things like "you stupid fag" or anything like that, that'd be an automatic mute, wouldn't it?

Yes if someone was genuinely insulted I would do something about it.
 
Already in the rules, but I don't think the rule can be applied consistently just because it's so common and generally is used a replacement for douchebag. If the person is harassing someone in particular then I think it would be appropriate for an admin to at least silence the player. It's still a judgement call, and I'm no longer a server rule enforcer, so it's up to the current set of admins to decide.
