Was doing this in the morning and talking about it on chat, and someone joked in chat that "thats how REAL men mine diamonds", hence forth me doing it later. Note I've found out this is illegal on the server as its a bug within Optifine.

Also that Texture Pack is horrible, I recommend Faithful 32x32x. You might need to install mcpatcher or Magic Launcher tho

Yeah the default texture pack is light years better than this. Unless you're some kind of allergic to quality.

While nice and shiny, diamonds are use to fund many of the conflicts in Africa

I switch back and forth between this (Disco's OcD texture pack) and default. I've always found it neat personally.
