How did metal become vintage?

According to stats.tf, there is 1 vintage refined metal, 7 vintage scrap metal, and 2 vintage reclaimed metal that exists in TF2.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how items like these became vintage in the first place? I hear about stuff like this from time to time but never heard how it happened

If that were the case then I assume there would still be a lot more vintage metal in players backpacks

Valve glitch, just like vintage max heads, big kills, etc.

This was back before the mannconomy update. How did people attain it? They used an exploit.

They deleted the metal out of their backpack, and sent a ticket in to support to get it back when the update came out. Backpack reset, vintage metal.

Wasn't a very well known exploit and it was only there for a short amount of time. I think these go for at least a bud.

What faron said, i think it was a bug where you could get vintage stuff by asking it back from steam support

I'm not entirely sure how it happens but I think it has something to do with steam support granting items that have been deleted either by accident or from Hijacked accounts.

Example: One day this guy http://backpack.tf/id/76561197971384027?time=1357200000 had his account stolen and I think the hacker deleted all of the items or something.
Then when steam support granted his items back he somehow got the only vintage shortstop ever.

But the majority of the Glitched Vintages were made ages ago and have been traded around.
