Hedgehogs

I suggest this breed.

as you can tell from this fine example, this breed is very friendly, and also fast.

I have a few of them in my garden, at night they come to steel some food of my cat. You don't really have a lot of affection of them so i don't see why you would consider getting one.
 
Huh...I never really knew people had hedgehogs as pets.

Hedgehogs can be really great pets but they aren't what I would call a starter pet, they need a large enclosure and daily activity/exercise otherwise they will pack on the pounds. If you are considering getting one I would recommend that you thoroughly research their needs, the different breeds, and the legality of owning one (surprisingly they are illegal to own in some places.)

Also, as an alternative if you are just looking for a neat/spiny pet, look into Spiny Mice, I got my mouse last year and she's been great since day one. She's only bitten me once and that was when I was moving (stress does that to animals), and she's very easy to care for, I'd highly recommend one.
 
My wife had a hedgehog before she was my wife. Pretty easy to take care of. The one she had was really easy to handle, but she had a friend that had one that was REALLY fiesty. So IDK. Good luck.
