Sorry if this is in the wrong section :o.
What's up with TF2 and community? Heard it was in a slump because it's just a hat game now?
Thanks!

Well trading aside, quickplay changes really helped kill off a lot of community servers and it still is killing them off. Community servers are still here of course but its not as strong anymore.

The whole 'all about hats' is still just a stereotype. There are of course people who make the game mainly about hats, but in any non-trading servers I rarely see anyone talking about hats / trading.

And there's the new weapons, some new game modes in beta testing and stuff of that sort.

The game is still popular right? Many servers are full?

Expectations went high after MVM, and they haven't really achieved anything that great again yet.
Hopefully they're brewing something with all the money they're siphoning via market and trades.

Ahh MvM was fun with friends. Hopefully they change something.

MVM is not worth doing unless you go for australim weapons. The games still shit really. I only play it for saxton hale or freak fortress because I can't stand playing normal tf2 anymore. And valve servers are shit. Every game i play is basically this; One team is full of good people and they stomp the other team and nothing gets balanced.

There's hype for the upcoming TF2 matchmaking :p
More specifically, another war update that pitches the spy versus the engineer with confirmation of a competitive matchmaking system, new weapons for spy and engineer, possibly new maps and more.

That aside, Steam recently added a taunt workshop for users to submit taunts for approval in game, these taunts should be a lot more easier to make because they're just in SFM.

Besides that, not much.

Am I the only one who's worried about what this could further do to community servers?

I have a feeling matchmaking will be valve server exclusive thing which could further empty out community servers like Skial

I haven't been keeping good track of any discussion threads the past couple weeks but the only person I've so far heard thinking it will further kill community servers was Bott, I think.

And it's right to assume it will. Particularly for us since Skial seems to attract more comp players than your average random Valve server or pretty much any other given community server group. If this drains the competitive playerbase it is going to hurt because there's no way in hell Valve would direct matchmaking traffic anywhere else than their own servers.

But this is all under the pretense of helping the TF2 community so you shouldn't expect communities who don't prioritize / host servers to care, much less notice.

if you find a nice and populated server to play on regularly, everything will be just fine (just don't look at the bigger picture)

Similar to counter strike, I'm hoping community servers will become deathmatch servers.

I mean I think TF2 is pretty fun but after playing it for an absurd 1202 hours, it got boring. But I mean it still is fun time to time if you find good servers, but unfortunately the Skial server I loved (Jailbreak) got jam packed with a whole bunch of newbies that didn't know the rules so pretty much all I did was record and file reports. And the market crashed and I LOVED trading so that ruined half of the game for me, I lost ~$30 from the crash so I wasn't too happy, so I cashed out my whole BP and went into CS:GO which I think is a lot better. But if you can find servers you enjoy then that would be perfect. But don't buy anything unless you don't care about losing a lot of profit.

Thats prob because you don't play competitive...

When matchmaking come out, I know that I will be doing it. Skial will still be the only casual server I play on though. CSGO has a much larger player base of people who want to get good and play competitively, thus all the dm servers. A lot of people scoff at the thought of tf2 being competitive, saying that it is too silly or immature. These type of attitudes need to change for tf2 to succeed as a competitive game. I have 1,000 hours and have no plan for stopping, because I am constantly trying to improve and up my game. This is what brings me pleasure (ew) but this is not the case for most people.
