Invalid Hats showing up that I don't own.

This shows up http://i.imgur.com/eXeKp8k.jpg, when I have this equipped http://i.imgur.com/EUGvTTQ.jpg. (Although I actually like this new hat better. >_> )
Switching classes, recording a demo does not fix it either.

Just me. Had a guy verify that it showed up as the default hard hat. He was saying he had a hat on that he didn't own too, but I couldn't see it.

Hats are controlled by Valve through the client connecting directly to Steam.

They broke the ability for servers to equip any hats or wearables for that matter because they wanted to be in control of it.

Probably a Valve bug. A few days ago I saw my pyro wearing the pyro beanie when I really had the handy man equipped. Only happened once though.

I had the same issue on Trade. Here's what I told Eric Smith, a Valve employee (via email):

[...] I have another issue with the item server. Sometimes my items
appear as other items in the game (and not for the class). Here's an

Here's another one of me having the Antlers on while being a Pyro:

One or two of those occurred if I wore specific items (Antlers and the
Rather Festive Tree). And it was strange that I was wearing an item I
don't have (Antlers showed up as Earbuds, but without the effect of
the music notes).
