Instead of us having to ask a mod to lock a thread, why not let us lock it ourself?
maybe for the non-trade threads, a "Request Lock" title prefix. that way, if someone wants to lock their thread, they can simply edit the title and moderators can easily find what threads are requested to be closed here

speaking of thread prefixes, is it possible for there to be a forum plugin that auto-locks trade threads marked Closed?
That

Makes sense. I have nothing to object here. The only thing is I still can't understand how allowing members to lock their own threads will be an improvement. What kind of benefit does it hold?
As I've said, admins not having to stop what they're doing to lock threads, and members not having to wait even ten extra seconds to get their threads locked.

So we'll have to rely on spammers' responsibility and expect them to lock down their own threads since we'll have to assume that admins won't have to lock the threads anymore?
I mean, you are making a perfect point, Dave, but people on the Web got used to heavily moderated forums and newcommers who come to Skial forums to post, for instance, Unban Appeal, don't expect to have the power of locking down their own threads.

I think, that allowing certain category of Skial regulars to lock their own threads would be a good idea (based on arguments provided by Dave). What I mean is, if member has (for instance) 300 posts he gets a right to lock his own threads along with notification informing him about it.

Perfectly reasonable.

Hmm, how to put this to not sound like an arrogant ass...

I think people need the ability to look like idiots on the forum, if someone makes a shitposted thread, they deserve a hard time. A Forum is for a discussion, just because a discussion is not going the way the OP intended - is that fair to end what might become a lively discussion? As I said, excellent idea in theory, but I don't think this would end well in execution...you're assuming people are going to use this maturely to prevent idiocy and we damn well know that if you hand the asylum over to the inmates, shit happens (Just play Arkham Asylum!)

If this gets implemented, I'm going back and locking all of my old threads that haven't been active. Pretty good countermeasure against necroposting, yup, and mods can't be expected to go back and lock a list of threads because one user doesn't feel like chancing one of them getting necrobump'd.

You can't change people being immature and giving them the power to lock their own threads isn't going to make them behave any more or less immaturely. For the mature ones among us, though, yadayada, I've posted this same shit before. Requesting lock since OP can't.

Necrobumping is, actually, another thing that speaks in favor of allowing thread locking.

I know you posted the same shit before, I was merely adding my opinion into the mix that people who start dumb threads won't be able to get chastised properly. I wouldn't have an issue with this being done at Psycho's suggestion that only after a certain number of posts it could be unlocked. I remain against it, but if that's done I suppose I'm not as against it as I would be.

I suggested this to Bott a while back. He didn't seem thrilled about the idea.

To be honest, I don't see what's wrong with just tagging your thread as CLOSED, anyway. If somebody necrobumps an old thread, we just negrate-spam them into oblivion and move on.

We have an ant problem, so lets bring in anteaters. What are we going to do with the anteaters? I think he was neutral on the idea and I think I remember saying I was going to do a plugin for it, but my hate for Xenforo runs deep after trying to figure out the plugin API so I don't really think it's worth my time (unless I charge money for the plugin like it seems everyone else does). I don't think it's TOO big of an issue and I don't really moderate the trade section, but I think maybe deleting the necrobump instead of ratespamming it would be better.

Honestly, we don't get too many reported threads, so maybe just say report your own thread asking it to be locked and we'll take care of it?

I see no problem with this. It can also be done to re-open threads if necessary.

So you're telling me that if I reported my own trade thread with the report feature, you'd just go ahead and lock it for me?

Neat

I would. I don't see any problem with it, unless any other mods disagree.

Just use the closed tag... change tag back and bump if you use the reuse the thread, theres no need to be locking them...
