If I can get 30+ FPS on high graphics with my little Geforce 8800 GTS and my shitty 1.7 GHz laptop processor, then you should be able to completely crush Valve games with that computer.

Also, grats on the new computer. If you're like me then you're going to be almost crying tears of joy the first time you play TF2 on high without lagging to death.

Nice, you don't have to stick with DX8 anymore. Do you get to pick the computer? You might be able to do better than that.

The 8800GTS is more powerful than the card in the computer he's looking at.

I'm looking around now to see if there's anything else better for around the same price point, no guarantees though. (I already found a place that has the same rig for 10$ less and free shipping [forgot your in canada, probably not free anymore)

This one has a faster cpu and graphic card than the walmart or newegg one and cheaper by $100.

power supply is only 300, which is a bare minimum, the hardware wouldn't run properly, and on further investigation of the original card in the first post, it's not fantastic, but it will be more then sufficient.
Edit: also the processor in the first post was 3.6 quad, so it's faster.

Faster, but not better. The i5 is can do much more per clock cycle and whoops that AMD chip: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

The i5-3450 is also quad core, and intel CPUs are faster per clock.

No one would sell a prebuilt system that couldn't handle the power draw. You only need a 500 watt supply if you are going to buy a $200 graphic card, which is something I highly doubt Ruelel would do.

If he can pick which computer to buy, I would get a cheaper computer and use the savings to buy the graphic card separately.

Well only ruelel can decide, it's up to him we'll see where he goes with it.

Indeed, but still that power supply would hold him back a great deal, better or not, if it doesn't have the power it needs, it isn't gonna do shit.
Power supply is fine. The max that computer would pull is like 220 watts. Under load maybe 250. I have a 700 watt power supply which I use nowhere near the limit off. Honestly I could run two 560Ti's and it would be fine.

They won't ship to canada, they have a canadian store but I don't see that computer.

For a bit more you could do this,

Beware, there's now such a thing as "closed-source/proprietary" "gaming" peripherals, such as the new Razor mice/keyboards. I heard that you NEED an internet connection for them to function properly.
