So, people of Skial, I've decided to get a laptop.
It's pretty inconvenient in college without one.

My price range is about $900-1000.
I'm not looking to game on this.
I'm planning to use applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, Ntrack Studio, etc,so I need it to be reliable and powerful.

Any advice on what to get?

I would prefer Windows. I'll eventually build a hackintosh. Not paying $3,000 for a laptop.
Macbook Air, light, portable, can run photoshop and illustrator off another monitor if you need it. Base model is $1000. Just sayin..

Although if you want windows, I would say go with Lenovo (either thinkpad or ideapad): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246628 Not as portable though. While people could use it for gaming the i7 is nice for graphic design and I believe PS has some hardware accelerated stuff as well.

I've used it before, and it's sucky. Also, the base model has 64gb memory, a 1.7GHz processor. For $1,000, windows machines in the same price range will eat it for breakfast.

That Lenovo looks pretty sweet, I'll keep it in mind.

It's light weight.

I love my thinkpad, got mine for around 700$ last year. You should be able to put something decent together with your budget, don't expect to game on it though. Thinkpad Shop
