Could you guys please change Dustbowl+ NY back to Dustbowl? I understand it's the Halloween event and every year this server, along with Dustbowl NY, get changed to event maps, but there are dedicated servers just for 2fort and it doesn't feel like a warranted change to have the invasion_2fort map up 24/7 on a Dustbowl server. Quite a few regulars have come on, seen the map change, and stated "see you guys in a month."

Even with the stats it's quite evident when the peak times are. Is it not at all possible to put the server on a timer to switch the map back to Dustbowl once 6PM hits? I mean it's fun and all having these two servers be the bastard children of Skial whenever a Halloween event happens every year, but it's alienating that specific server community. Whether that matters or not, I don't know. What I do know is, like any donator (which Dustbowl NY has it's share of like every other server) donates to keep said servers up and functioning, with the added benefit of being able to connect to said servers when full, and with the expectation of being able to play the specific map the server is dedicated to. If the insistence is still to keep the map dedicated to one Halloween map (without even a rotation of the remaining maps), would it not be prudent to at least change the name of the server until the event is over?
 
The server shouldn't be nearly empty past 5 PM, the servers used to be filled at 2PM or even earlier.

Also just because people donated doesn't mean we are obligated to keep your server around. As mentioned on the terms of agreement on the donation page:

"There is no guarantee servers will be up for as long as you have benefits."

If the regulars are not keeping the server seeded then we will take steps to keep the server alive, even if that means switching to another map. If the halloween map is a fad that dies out, then you will have benefited from new players having the server saved in their history or even their favorites.

I believe most donators would rather have us change than to keep the servers exactly the same until absolutely no one plays on it.
 
It's funny that you mention that the donators would rather have the server map changed, because those that I know who do in fact donated have been on DB LA+ since the switch. If you are insistent on keeping the server on the event map throughout the event, at least put in a rotation or the option to rtv, so in the case that regulars outnumber fresh faces, we can switch it back to Dustbowl.

I mean 2forts fun and all, but there are quite a number of servers dedicated purely to it already running the 2fort_invasion map. Toss up Watergate or something else.
 
You have to face the fact that the server isn't getting seeded properly. We are also not against diversity. In fact we probably have the most diverse set of servers out of any other community. Not only do we have vanilla servers, we also have Saxton, Deathrun, Jailbreak, Idle, and Trade servers. If we were lazy about it, we could've easily just hosted 2fort, dustbowl, and turbine. But when a server falls below our standards, we change it.

Most donators are probably just content to get on their main server for 3-4 hours a day during prime time and never worry about seeding issues, which we worry about all the time. Due to the update and the way Valve controls traffic through quickplay, we cannot control the fact that there are tens of thousands of people being funneled into invasion maps.

If moving to LA is suitable for you, then by all means do it. If the invasion fad dies out, your home server will be added to the history of thousands of new players. Turning a 24/7 server into a rotation server is not something we would like to do and is bad for the population as well.

Well, after playing 2fort_invasion with the people you hope will be drawn into the community after the update, I do hope they stay for quite some time. Seeing this kind of crap at all points during the day has definitely been a boost!

I see crap like that across all servers all times of the day, both Skial server and non-Skial servers. I also seen it on Dustbowl+ NY when it still ran dustbowl. It's entirely a player problem, not a server problem. Unless the aliens are somehow beaming racist thoughts to the player's heads.

That's also something you can deal with by reporting them. We can easily take care of racism in chat cases.

Even if Dustbowl was a magical racism-free zone (trust me, it's not. If you became a admin you'd be surprised about the amount of reports you'll get from there) it would still get changed to something else because there's no point in running a server that doesn't fill properly.
 
Ummm wtf, put your alltalk 24/7 dustbowl regular spawn server back to dustbowl. nobody likes crappy 2fort. get it together skial.
