i'm wondering if this hat (the green energy VRH) is duped, http://www.tf2items.com/item/1047683086 this seems to think it is but the guy is apparently saying that he was there when it was unboxed. (probably a lie)

It's not duped. tf2items.com says that there is a potential that it is duped, but in order to make sure you have to check backpacks. The two previous owners do not have this item in their backpacks.

question. what if the person who duped the item originally sold the duped one on? whould the other hat show up on the previous owners?

Technically it would. Say there are three people involved. #1 uncrated the Unusual. He sold it to #2 who later duped it and then sold it to #3. So as of now, both #2 and #3 own the Unusual. Unless they delete it, or have private backpacks, then tf2items.com will log them in the Unusual user history list and then they would have it in their backpacks.

But yeah, Faron is probably more concise and better at explaining duping to people than anyone else.
