CTF kinda sucks, here's why.

It's been said quite alot before, but CTF does kinda suck (And potentially the worst official game mode for TF2). And there's various problems that hurt the game mode in general:

1) Map Design: generally CTF have 2 identical bases for RED and BLU, and while that itself isn't the problem, it's some of the designs for the maps that are. Take 2Fort for example.

[2Fort is not very open and the outside can be easily be shut by Snipers. And also if you fall in the water, the only way back up is the sewers. However the sewers can possibly have a Engie\/Sentry nest in one or 2 of them so if you fall in there, you'll just have to accept your fate and walk in the sewer \(Or just kill bind\).](https://preview.redd.it/g1lkrpu02jhb1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=95d6dad97b5ca19ae7409dc7c492f7197055f176)

In all, 2Fort is just shit. Although there are other maps worth mentioning that have similar issues.

You get my idea here? Each CTF map has at least one thing wrong with it. And now we lead to the second issue.

2) Engineers: I talked before about the sewers in 2Fort being a potential Engie nest, well other times, the intel room is also a Engie nest. And given that there's more than 1 Engie in a server, there can be multiple sentries and even if a Spy saps them, the Engies can still stop them since all Engies can repair/upgrade each other's buildings.

And not only that, you also have to content with Ninjaneers. And while they're a problem in other game modes too, they mostly happen in CTF. In case you don't know what a Ninjaneer is: They basically try to cut behind enemy lines, into the enemy spawn (Or the intel room), and then build their exit teleport there without the enemy team knowing. Here's an example.

[Once a Ninjaneer has completed his nest in your intel room, it can be extremely hard to get rid of it. Unless you have a Medic and a Heavy, Soldier, or Demoman, then you're essentially screwed not because of the enemy team being able to hold the intel \(Since the intel carrier can't teleport\), but because you can't cap the enemy intel.](https://preview.redd.it/qq9rh4ue5jhb1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=6461e500cf09f17ac79483098eacfeb81bad816e)

And speaking of the intel...

3) Intel Spam: Sure, intel spam is kinda goofy to do, although it can cause 2 issues. First being someone might have a contract active for a CTF map and when there's intel spammers that nobody is gonna bother stopping, it means the contract followers as I'll call them will get frustrated and disconnect while losing any progress they made. And second being the fact that any Casual XP the players will have gained would be unachievable until the match actually ends, and because intel spammers won't let the match end, then the XP is just unobtainable.

4) No time limit: This one's the big deal. Since CTF has effectively no time limit in Casual, it means the match can basically last indefinitely. And even intel spammers can also spam the intel indefinitely too and it can get annoying pretty quick for some people. Although some community servers like Skial's Casual servers do have a map rotation every 35 minutes or so, and the CTF maps also have a timer on those as well so at least we won't worry too much about intel spammers or people outright refusing to cap.

And those are the main issues with CTF that explain why it is the worst game mode in TF2. Although I'll add an honorable mention: Snipers. I mean, that's obvious, Snipers are all over CTF (And every other game mode for that matter) so it wouldn't make sense to talk about it here. In all, maybe think twice before you decide to vote for a CTF map.
