So buying CS:GO for 3.74 now (yay sales) and wanna know how the trade is, in terms of if it is any different from TF2 and such.

Weapons have rarity attached to them, like in Dota, but it seems to be ignored by most of the community.
Weapons also have wear on them, ranging from Factory New - Battle-Scarred, which will sometimes drop the price (see: market).
Also, the knives are like unusuals and still sell for upwards of $300.
There is almost no active trading scene, and if there is, it's very well hidden.

Alright, so do I get these things from drops or these crates I've seen? Is uncrating lucrative?

Assisted a trader in selling one for well over $500, in the same condition. I cannot tell you where the knife came from as I do not play the game (Yet), but I do suspect it is from one of the weapon cases. Which case, is beyond me, either it must be a really lucky opening on one that grants that 1% chance of "an exceedingly rare item".

So TF2 has Crates, DOTA 2 has Treasure Chests and CS:GO has Weapon Cases.
