Should soundboard & music be allowed in Voice Chat?

I picked Option #1 since it aligns closest to what I think is optimal, but I only believe that soundboards should be allowed. Coming from a strictly FF2 standpoint, music is a hindrance to my gameplay regardless of whether it's actually sounds decent or if it's being played out of a tin can. While soundboards can still be annoying when spammed back-to-back, more often then not (atleast in the FF2 servers, can't speak for anywhere else) they're used in good spirit, for example Mr BN King using the Taco Bell...Bell sound effect after killing multiple people with rage.

Like I prefaced my first paragraph with I've chosen option #1 but still think music shouldn't be allowed, only soundboards to a reasonable extent.

Also coming from a deathrun standpoint some maps have music that play throughout the runner course and not just only for minigames (like Supermarket, Boomer Shooter, and Pokemon). There's also maps with music rooms where a song can be played (like Breadland, Hawk Tuah, and Stupidity).

From a Vanilla 2Fort standpoint:

Music is always a no for me as most of the time it's terrible quality with volume issues and/or the tune choice is cringe.
Soundboards are a hit and miss.
#3 for me.

#1 is level-headed but in a 64-player 2Fort server, "reasonable" is an idea that's beaten and thrown outta the saloon.

I have to go with option 1. Mic spam ear rape should still be against the rules. But as far as music or soundboards, if someone doesn't like them (and a server vote to mute fails), then an individual can simply !ignore. I'm surprised it isn't already like this tbh.

I say this as a person who insta-!ignores anyone playing music (since I'm almost always listening to my own, plus Tf2 mic quality tends to be shit)

Sometimes I miss my short-lived micspamming days.
It's a long story though, too tangential even for a thread like this.
This was my favourite soundbite to drop.

I've reported a bunch of spammers after I forsook my criminal ways. Some of them were causing disturbance. Others not so much.
Lately been reporting only those with questionable content or extended sessions.
There's been additional fuzzy logic in play too (ie. is the spammer playing the game or just spamming, do they have other infractions under their belt or not, what are their perceived intentions etc.)

I wish spammers could read the room & be considerate. Not impossible ig.
I've seen people enjoy the songs and soundbites so many times. Maybe it's not the best way to consume music, but it's kinda unique.

Could this post mention /ignore? And the command to reverse it?

I have to choose #1.
Even if I admire the simplicity of #3.

My whole personality is built around playing funny engineer sounds lol

Option 1

(but people who play entire songs in full should 100% be sentenced to the Play-Doh extruder.)

I tend to agree with Option #1 if only to increase playerbase. My only concern is when we have episodes of player(s) who want to chime in and play over one another? I for one wouldn't want competing mutiple audio files being cast simultaneously. This would instantly mean apply the !ignore function w/o casting for a vote.

In most of my micspam reports I've submitted, I had chosen not to use !ignore ingame. My reason is for in the event someone played a tune with derogatory words within. I personally listen to my personal choice of music etc w/o integrating it into my microphone input.

In conclusion, everyone enjoys listening to music but then there is bound to be conflict with players who don't like what they're hearing as it's so subjective. Since we can't please/accomodate everybody's fav vibes, I'm leaning towards Option #3 on Vanilla 2Fort servers. Interestingly on payload, turbine, and dustbowl that I've visited, micspam of music has not been so prevalent as much as it is 2Fort because there's more emphasis on team push on timed objectivity.

Though i do say if we are allowing Micspam.

I think we shouldn’t allow it for ZE since there are leaders who use VC alot who have to be a commander and tells players what to do to beat the map and to hold off the zombies

If someone micspams when the leader is speaking. It could be hard for players to focus on the leaders word, due to the micspam allowing alot of strategic methods to fail due to hard hearing and can cause a bunch of screw ups!

For the first option, this is perhaps acceptable but it feels like the bare minimum and would just be an annoying change.

We don't WANT people who just blast music through their mic's at low quality. If I wanna hear music I will listen to it OUTSIDE THE GAME. Funny sound effects are fine in moderation but afaik always were acceptable so this poll wouldn't change that.

I guess I have the luxury of muting client side, but all that means is that you have made it the players problem to do this, and this poll likely isn't gonna be seen by most of your player base. I would argue its results are moot as they could misrepresent the actual statistics. That being said, the possibly larger portion of players who might disagree are left having to mute every annoying kid playing low quality music.

In conclusion, I largely disagree with allowing music spam in voice chat. It would be, while not an unmanageable negative, an overall negative change and y'all really shouldn't use this poll for any administrative decision since so few people who play will actually see it.

It feels like it would be opening a whole can of worms that shouldn't be opened.

Any time I'm playing and someone starts micspamming music, almost everyone in chat will !ignore them or tell them to shut up. As far as I've seen, no one likes it, and then it begs the question, well, if just !ignoring will be the only thing stopping them, then why can't there be multiple people micspamming at once? i feel like people would be able to take a huge advantage over being allowed to micspam in vc, even if it's a "moderate" amount.

so, i vote no. keep everything as is. it might just be more trouble than it's worth otherwise.

As much as I miss the days where Jungle would spam music on idle literally all day, the others are right in terms of it opening a can of worms. Something to consider as it may result in more mute work for admins if the songs they choose technically go against server rules. I understand that they can mute people client-side, so for that, I have voted yes, keep it reasonable.

If we do go with #1 we should add specifications about it, slurs and shit is a given by default. But things like HIGHLY inaudible voice filters, soundboards that solely made to annoy people or yell "SHUT UP" or "STOP TALKING" which are not as uncommon as you think now should be on at the line. Because if I gotta deal with DeepFingerAss351 sounding like a fucking alien through voice mod or edgy kid named xxnick_gurrxx constantly interrupting people mid convo with a loud soundboard of King Ass Ripper or someone shouting "SHUT UP" I'll think I will finally have my 13th reason why.

If it's something like ear rape (excessively loud) or racist/discriminatory/hate speech.

Heyy, just to check.

Is it so that political & religious songs will be alright, if their lyrical content is not offending and they are not too loud?

Erika comes to mind first, it seems to be quite popular. Nothing wrong with the lyrics and all, but the associations are worse.
Not a big fan of proselytizing either. Hymns and praise songs feel weird in a server. But well, if we assume everyone can use /ignore (well, tbh they can't, I saw it myself when I spammed this AND the earlier soundbite at the same time!!! The exasperation was real, the guy couldn't write my name right. I took pity on them and stopped the torture.) then we'll be fine ig.

I find this poll a bit baffling too. No complaints tho, but I do wonder. Why now? And why these kind of polls, that are not only advisory but enforceable? I thought we were not doing these here.

There is no point in asking because only the people that have something to complain about, actually interact with these forums.

I remember the coin poll. It made sense, as the forums seem to have a large representation of DR players.
It was about a minor issue, as far as I understand.
Also, the end result was quite decisive.

Unlike this thing here. Even if the first option wins, you really can't say this is the opinion of the masses.
But still, I do like that you asked.

It's ok to change your mind.
