I don't think its his computer (or faulty / low end hardware causing it). Doing a quick google search, it seems like a fairly common problem with this game

Weird. I've never had any graphical problems from this game out of the ~15hrs I've played but this could just be a Windows only issue.

DirectX 9 or 10.

I've played ~120 hours and haven't had this glitch.
