No, this is old. Backpack.tf made an announcement a few days ago stating buds won't be used as currency anymore.

The reason why buds are cheap is because key prices kept rising. Keys are about 20ref these days.

Buds have been decreasing for awhile now so this was expected.

There won't be a decrease in key prices, in a VERY long time. The problem is that its not a rise in key prices, but a drop in ref prices. Refined is diluted, based on how many people run idle accounts and just flat out how many people play the game. The more people who break down all their items, and then want to buy the hats they want instead of crafting a random hat, means that valve's method of taking currency out of the economy isn't working.

If no currency leaves the economy, then currency floods the market and the value of said currency drops. Unless valve finds some way to mass pull refined out of the market, keys will never drop in price.

I kind of agree with you since it's almost cheaper (In my eyes atleast) to just buy a key with real money than to waste time crafting loads of the weapons you've waited months to collect up.

Valve needs to make refined more useful than just the ability to craft a cheap hat otherwise it will just keep going down in value.

Oops... I didn't realize this was made more than half a year ago aha, I just saw it near the middle of the page and assumed it was recent. Since this is still a thing with buds they're at 3 keys now.
