There used to be a time that NOT having these kinds of servers on skial was smart, but with all the other servers running these maps gone I think this would be a fun new addition to skial's custom lovers.

I agree with this, perhaps not TC_HYDRO, we'd have to see how well that does first.

But definitely add cp_degrootkeep, also is pl_moriganalley compatible? (The payload medieval map) https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Morrigan_Alley

It would be interesting to have a server that can rotate between the two.

Nevertheless I think it would be good to have at least one medieval server back, it was always a pain to find a good one which didn't have all the RTD crap.

I just realized degroot is the only official medieval mode map

There are custom ones but I dunno how it would handle without quickplay so I'm fixing the suggestion to be just for degroot

If bottiger is up for custom medieval maps that's fine with me too but degroot is the safest bet I imagine

Yeah I just read that, morigan alley is not an official official map.

I like the game mode but it is far from balanced. I think it might be the most unbalanced game mode in tf2.
Obviously classes that don't have many 'medieval' items have like no weapons to work with, while the demoknight shines amongst the others. People who don't own the available unlockables have a major disadvantage
I wouldn't say it's a bad idea to have a server for it, but it's just very noob-unfriendly

True, but I guess it gives noobs that feeling of fulfillment when they finally get it. I remember when I first got my achievment chargin' targe unlock :grinning:

Valve should just make all the achievement-unlockables Stock-quality. there's no reason to limit stock additions to the Spell Magazine (making the Spellbook achievement useless) and Power-Up Canteen (which can already be crafted on top of being rewarded for completing your first MvM mission, even in Boot Camp)

to get back on topic: +1

Yea I know where you're coming from, but I'm assuming it wouldn't be much of an issue. Vs. Saxton Hale is a lot more noob unfriendly in my opinion since once you die you're out for the whole round, but that server's been doing fine for years now

Arena mode is not the problem. Everyone is somewhat equal in vsh when not you're not looking at skills, as most stock weapons are still just as if not greater than the unlockables.

I'd play it! I'd play it! I'd play it! I'd play it! I'd play it! I'd play it!
+1 Degroot is hot

I meant from a discouragement stand point. I figure getting killed from inexperience and having to wait a entire round before respawning is a lot more discouraging than not having some different melee weapons

Plus a lot of the melee weapons/classes are more balanced out than some people make them out to be in that mode. For example demoman eye lander can get wrecked by anyone with random crits. Same thing to those using the half zatoichi, it has no random crits either which is a huge deal when its melee only. Heavy's warrior's spirit causes him to take 30% more damage from all sources and his steak sandvich adds another 25% damage penalty ontop of that.

It does have some balance issues but it's still overall fun as shit even if you don't have all the unlocks

Don't be forgetting bows and arrows.
*crossbow, demoshields, consumables, throwable weapons, shoes

It's still a big advantage that you get from these unlockables. When it comes to melee, yes, it's pretty balanced. But since some classes can equip primary and/or secondary weapons it's definitely not.
Look. It's probably a good idea to have a degroot keep server, but it's just very unbalanced. If tweaking it wouldn't change the quickplay status then I'd say balance it out.

Quickplay is picky with its rules, practically any alteration to balance would take the server out of quickplay
